I saw rory mcilroy hit an iron shot 320 yrds at Congressional today with my own eyes (it's a fact)...he sure as hell hit the ding with that one.

You do know that 320 on the fair way wasn't the distance to the hole right? That was the drive distance. I saw the same shot.

    rickertt:

Let me clarify again. I'm not against the course being set up so tough that breaking 100 for an unskilled player is unlikely. What I'm against is that, without regard to my skill, because I haven't paid the money to get better clubs and golf balls, I can't even reach the fairways. That's what I want to be warned against. I am an 18 handicap in real life. I played Crooked Stick just a month before John Daly won the PGA there and I hit every tee shot long enough to reach every fairway. It might have been left or right of the fairway, but it was long enough. My clubs are Wilson Staff so no great expense paid there.

So after being here or awhile and playing some...getting used to the distances your clubs have/etc...after you came to #2 at 231 yards uphill...did you think magic was going to happen?

Then you came to the next two holes, 460/470 yard par 4's and you couldn't reach them in two.

Hmmn...never thought to look at the scorecard after each hole and say "gee, how can I reach that green?", yet you continued on for 45 minutes in the hopes of what?  Really, not belittling you, nor trying to, but why after the first 4 holes you couldn't "see the light" is beyond me.

Then you came here to post up "I want some warning"...well, as soon as you finished # 1 and looked at the scorecard, you had all the info you needed.

Excuse me now, need to wipe down my R11 for tomorrows last gasp attempt;)

Rickertt. You seem unhappy that the free clubs can't cope with the courses. But if everybody was given access to the better ones, then within days there'd be no game on here to play. Do you understand that?

Do you understand that wasn't my complaint? Just a note on the tournament saying: "Starter clubs won't be able to compete on this course" would have been nice.

Again you need to read my post more closely. I don't think I made any specific complaint about not being able to reach every par 4 green in two. It was not even being able to reach the fairway off the tee. Again also what bothers me is that it has nothing to do with skill but the equipment you're forced to use if you haven't spent money on better ones.
