If the image you want to paste is already on a webpage somewhere, you can try the drag 'n' drop method.

In the video, don't be misled by my entering 100% in the dimension box when editing the image. This does not mean the picture will be posted at 100% of its normal size. It means the picture will be no wider than the area in which it is posted, so you will see the entire picture's width. If it is a tall picture, you may see a vertical scrollbar in a wall or blog post because these areas have a height limit, but that's another story.  : )

So if I understand this right, when you search for something, get responses and click on the "Images" tab at the top of the site, you can drag any of those pictures into your post? All this time I've been snipping and using Postimage and I don't really have to do it that way?

Love learning new stuff if this is true.  :-)

*edit. I just tried it and I get the picture in the post OK and can see it in the preview but when I post it I get the broken icon. (The second try was copy and paste.)

*edit,  Went back to the video to see what I missed after G helped me--the 100%. Duh.

Thanks for the education guys.  :-)

If you use google, to do your search, they have deemed all content on google, as open to the public.

There are rare times that a copy write has been added, however, if you use google, for search, find your picture, make sure it is smaller than 500, on the 1st number of the size of the picture shown

Right click on your mouse, then choose copy, then come back to the forum, and right click again where you want the picture, hit paste

I use imgur, to resize some pics that are 1200 + range, to forum size of 450, on the first number.

Jim, just check the size before you copy & post

cat image gif, 444 x 332 already in google, I just copied & pasted

    Good luck

It's not quite as simple as that Jim. If the picture is a link, which most, if not all of the images thrown up by a Google image search are, then you might get into trouble trying to drag an image link into a post. It might be better to click the link/s to get to the image, then drag that image into your post.

The only downside of this is unwittingly putting images with big file sizes into our posts, and none of us want to twiddle our thumbs waiting for slow pages to load.

I see what you mean. Did those pics above take a while to load? And whatever size the actual picture is, like when you click the link, will it always fit when you put 100% in?

    No.

    YankeeJim:
And whatever size the actual picture is, [...] will it always fit when you put 100% in?

This is where it gets a little complicated.

When you insert an image using the Insert Media icon, the height and width values that you can enter, set the MAXIMUM allowable width and height for the image (if these values are left at '0' or deleted, the image will post at its default size.

So, if you change the width value in the Insert Media dialogue to 450 upon posting, your image will post at a width of 450 pixels if its natural width is equal to or greater than 450, because you have set the MAXIMUM width to 450. If your image is less than 450 pixels wide, it will post at it's original size.

The Edit Image dialogue box allows you to a specify a width and/or height for your image, but it is governed by the MAXIMUM width and/or height settings you specify in the Insert Media dialogue. Putting a width of 100% in the Edit Image dialogue, will set the picture's width to either the maximum width of its containing element (in this case, the width of the forum) or the maximum width specified in the Insert Media dialogue, whichever is the smallest.

If you enter just a number in the Edit Image dialogue and not a % figure (it will assume pixels in that case) it is all too easy to make the image too big to fit where you are posting it. Inserting an image into a wall post with the Insert Media dialogue still gives you a default width setting of 550 (it should be about 250), but if you edit the image using the Edit Image dialogue and insert a width value of 100%, the image will be reduced to fit the width of the wall post so you can see all the image.

I'm not sure I've made it any clearer, but I tried.
