    Nancy1959:

My answer is to not pitch!  I mean, why ever use that shot when you have the flop or full shots with whatever spin you need to stop any shot from around the green within a foot or closer (if you don't hole it out) on every wedge shot?

    ~Nancy

I use the pitch because I find I can get closer to the hole and even sink the odd shot when I use the Cleveland's. What I have found with the MD's is when I was mapping them out they had no spin, but when using them in a club tournament they did perform a little better with the spin/stopping power. Maybe a few more days with them and I will figure them out and if not I will go back to my Cleveland's

The reason is that the pitch can accomplish the same thing.

People just need to find what works best for them.

I use all my shots that are in my arsenal, but The Pitch Shot is my go to shot when I don't get on the green.

I hole out more Pitches than any other shot

I am very happy with the MD wedges and looking forward to seeing if the 64 shows up.

The only shot that I haven't taken the time to learn is the chip. But similar to you, around the green, the pitch shot is my "go to" shot as well. In my opinion, the pitch shot is arguably the most consistent shot in this game.

When just off the green, I probably use the pitch shot 95% of the time. The other 5% is the flop shot.

This is where I really differ with you....and why I have taken it out of my game altogether as of a couple of years ago when I started to really improve my scores.  The pitch has too much run on it and with the inconsistencies of the greens and where they are really going to start running downhill or uphill make them a very inconsistent shot as compared to the other options.

I learned this from one of the best players in the game (BabeLincoln) who retired from playing about a year and a half ago.  Check out her short game stats and argue with that, LOL!

Hi Nancy - seems we meet again in another thread...accidental not intentional.

I think most people find what works for them the best.  The same short game stats of Fmagnets and Young46 who predominantly use the pitch shot around the green easily rival any one else in the game.

Each shot type has a place to some extent based on Andrew's (Lizard69) youtube video on short game shots which highlight the benefits of each shot in different situations.  The only short game shot that does not receive much support is the chip shot as it appears to be the least consistent.

That being said, a poorly executed pitch shot is no better than a well executed flop shot and vise versa.  The key is executing the shot correctly based on the lie, condition, green speed, slope, etc...

Where I agree with Robert in regards to the pitch shot, it has the least amount of variance especially with a mishit.  Young46 illustrated this in one of his short game shot tutorial videos and based on how he played the shot with his clubs/wedges.   But, a poorly time flop shot can leave you much further from the hole on average depending on how the shot is played again also depending on the lie and conditions.  There are simply far too many variables and exceptions to make broad statements where any one shot type is ALWAYS better than another.

I must respectfully agree with you here. Anytime I can get to within a couple of feet of the cup, without having to guess which way my ball is going to travel, on the ground,  I'll take it. When planning your approach shot, don't you try to fly it right at the hole? Get it close? Or do u try to hit it short and depend on the roll?  I, personally wouldn't try that on pebble, or SA.

Anytime you have to deal with, or try out guess,  what the greens are going to do with your ball travel path,  your usually fighting a losing battle.  So take it out of the equation, and you stand a better chance.
