Played it once, about 20 years ago. It was a long slog for me. As I was not familiar with the course then as I am now, the round is basically a blur - except for the 7th, which I played exceptionally well (for me). Funny how golf and life are like that - you remember some holes, stroke for stroke, for the rest of your life.

(Would not think of Bethpage as a links course - kind of the opposite - but hey, an American classic it most assuredly is.)

Details please.  So tell us about that 7th hole.  And do you play it as well here, on WGT?

Playing the 7th as a par 5. Stubbed my drive into the rough short of the fairway, somewhere where all that sand is. Two shots from there I was off the green, chipped on and made the putt for a par - but, using golfer logic, seeing as I had stubbed the drive, for me it was promptly classified as "the moral equivalent of a birdie." The rest of the day was lost balls, picking up and so on. Probably even found the water on the 8th, which has never been done on WGT (has it?) On WGT, nowadays at least, the 7th at Bethpage is a steady par 4 for me, one way or another. WGT is fantasy, golf is reality. The fantasy works a lot better.

Cool!  I hear ya on the "fantasy" part.  And WGT's Bethpage is a lot less hot and muggy.

And you don't have to sleep in the parking lot to get a tee time.
