Does Shot Pal give players an unfair edge?

Since I've been playing this game before shot pal and putter pal came about, I never felt the need to use them.  I have tried them a time or 2 for sure but found them to be distracting.  I play with golfers who use them exclusively and I don't feel that I am at any sort of disadvantage.  As long as they are available through WGT I see no reason to ban them for anyone who wants to use them.

hmmm.  while the OP referenced "shot pal" as possibly being the culprit it seems his bigger concern was that a "lower tier" player put a beating on one of the clubs "top players"... since it seems to be a consensus that shot pal does not give anyone such an edge...

maybe revisiting the OP concern that something is off whether he phrased his inquiry correctly or not...  my impression is that it sounds more like he is trying to discern whether this other player is more likely a "restarter," a sand bagger, or using some other form of cheat software, but not necessarily shot pal.

12 shots is a pretty big swing, but sometimes WGT can get in the way as well.  One player seems to get unexpected shot outcomes while the other throws darts.  it is like one player is being bad vem'd while the other is getting good vem.   it can happen both ways, I have felt the screws were tightened and I had to scratch out pars and I have felt like times, I could do no wrong everything was nearly perfect.  I had thought to myself...I know I am not this good!

it doesn't happen a lot and I think there was only one time on the desktop as a lower tier player, I ended up with an edge over a top ranked player in a skins game.  That said, it was no where close to a 12 shot swing.

when you see someone like that as a club owner, you can just keep an eye on them...if there are credits on the line it may be a concern but if your just playing for fun and talking bragging rights, then what are they trying to "win"?   if it continues and you suspect foul play then it is your choice whether you remove them from the club.

hope it sorts out, but I also agree with all the others -- shot pal, putter pal, is not an edge...focus boost may help slow the meter so you can ding a shot, but you still have to know the yardages, landing zones, and be able to putt.  being able to do all those things consistently, does usually reflect a stronger player and possibly a restarter or someone trying to game the system, but as noted elsewhere... occasionally you come across some gaming prodigies that pick things up really quick but in my experience these are quite rare because there are a lot of subtle nuances to WGT that make it rather difficult to master extremely fast.  you only have to observe the large number of long term players who still work diligently to master the game.

    Geoffd0:

if one player in your club is using shot pal and others aren’t is this fair or give that person an advantage?

One member recently beat another top member by 12 strokes and it seemed odd. We discovered he had purchased thousands of shot pals and no one else in club was using it.

FYI, We aren’t allowed to use putter pal in h2h

Have a look around the forums mate and learn the game.........Some will be better and some might be plain inept.

    Naaw....can't be.

No-one in that CC is shooting 12 better than the others..

EDIT...unless someone been booted..( no one since the orj post, all still there

BUT all the CC comps so far I see, have been evenly matched scores, on a tier expected basis.

    What is surprising is the..

( comparatively heavy entry fees for said club, with so few members )

    With winner take all..

No because everyone can see your apparel but not you shot pal.  The problem was the transparency.  The question isn't the 12 stroke difference, it was the faster advancement of levels and winning margin on shorter courses in which shot pal helps the most with wedge play.

if you look at this one tournament in particular... it may have been the tournament where the concern arose... one player shot a 64 in R3 whereas another player shot a 76.

This does not necessarily meet the description of top player but it was one of the possible examples where one player shot 12 strokes better than another.

Now they are all Tour Master or below, so it is hard to describe one of them being qualitatively better than the others and as you point out I don't know if anyone has left or been booted.

To most of us, shot pal would not make a big difference, but if we are talking average TM and below being able to "dial in" your yardages with shot pal ... it may in fact give them an edge over their peers if they are throwing darts and the others are just off a bit.  The more birdie putts you have the bigger the potential swings.  it may make sense the more I look into it....

That surprised me too.  Even a mediocre legend like myself would probably clean up in those tournaments before getting booted for what they may consider cheating (shot pal putter pal).  Oh well. it is their club hope all works out for them... of to more enjoyable things...

Saw that..after round 3, the owner / OP was only 8 shots behind, before WDing..

evenly matched till then and the guy a member still...( who knows ?? )

now my meter on my  screen with 25-50-75% but it is gone.  WTF.  Why did my screen change after bringing up this issue?  putt pal is still active.

What's next, nobody can buy better clubs/golf balls?  Someone with more money to spend than others, now there's an edge on others, but still not unfair.
