    Robert1893:

Another fact of WGT is that by the end of the year, we'l probably have at least one more of these threads in which someone says that during a round they should be able to access other sleeves of balls they've purchased. :-)

Indeed.  How long before someone says they want to use one ball with lots of distance off the tee, a different one with lots of spin on approach and one with a slow meter for putting........

I mean, they have them all in that nice garage they're towing behind the golf cart.  Why shouldn't they be allowed to use them?

And how about allowing a selection of drivers for different tee shot requirements?

It's called the 1 ball rule (only active in pro golf) If Rory McIlroy starts a round with his ball of choice, prov1x, then his bag is full with prov1x's. If he loses his ball then he's not allowed to pull a callaway out of his bag and use it, not even if he's just found 1 in a bush. The same rules apply here. You're lucky that wgt let you continue with a starter ball. In real golf, if you lost all your balls then you would be disqualified.

    Highglove:
The rules of golf only allow you to replace a ball with the same type, not any ball in your bag.

Name the rule no. please! I play by the rules, but I never came across it!

Actually, as Dazza explained, it's not a rule of golf but a term of certain tournaments. Pros have it, and top amateur tournaments may have it, too.

I prefer the "closed bag" idea - it reflects the designers' desire to follow the rules of golf (*), and the programmed limitations.

(*) which they did quite well, with a few exceptions.

    DonCaron:

If you are low on balls at start of the round, buy more then. You choose a ball to play with, and thats the only type you can play in that round.

The starter ball allows you to finish, but by the rules of golf if you put your last ball in water. You are done.

i look, but i sometimes can'r purchase as I am on a fixed income, although,i got around that. I take 2 surveys every other day. haven't had to buy anything in over a year

Actually you can do the latter. It would be an interesting bag: Three drivers and one wedge.

Well one thing that is a little sketchy is that if you're mobile only, you can't tell how much life a ball has left in your inventory before starting any game type.  So you may inadvertently start a tournament round with 15 hits left on your last ball and then be forced to switch to a starter on hole 4 of an 18-hole round.  And as the OP and many others state, it's not always possible to purchase a new sleeve of balls in the middle of a round.

The game will warn you when you have 1 hit left on a ball, which is basically useless.  It would be nice if it would be nice if it would warn you with 40 or 50 hits left so you know that you have a 9-hole round left and then can switch it out or hold off playing the next round until you can purchase new balls.

True it only tells you when you have one hit left.  The rest of your comment is total HS.  You are going to remember that last game it told you you had 40 or 50 hits left?  Sure you will.  Don't get down to 1.  You want to play with your ball of choice, if you don't have enough to start a round, choose a different one from your inventory(providing you have), if not, you have choices, either buy or don't play.  That's real simple.

But before you start the game, you can know that you have only 1 ball left. Rule of thumb: never start a high-stakes round (for example, a single-play event) with one ball.

Alternatively, before starting the game, take 20 seconds to start a practice round, see how many hits are on the ball, close it and then start the other round.
