In some cases, maybe. However, you will find some players that get so good with their wedges (not me!) that they will layup on a hole where they might risk more problems by going for the pin directly. For example, a long uphill iron shot to a green that slopes down to a side or rear may be best played with a layup and wedge, rather than hitting the front of the green and rolling off into more trouble than the fairway. I need to do that more often and probably save a few strokes!
