No one did.  There were no free balls, just ball effects, as noted in several other posts.

Let that be a lesson. In future, be more careful from who you accept free lemonade.

It was not lemonade... but it flowed freely.

It appears that WGT has given out 8 of these free ball effects since they became a part of the games. Personally I don't use them very often but do think they might be useful in entertaining young grandchildren. If I were to try to rank them, I would have to put the turkey ball at the top of the list followed by the fireworks ball.

Naturally the more beer I drink IRL the more I appreciate the beer ball or the champagne ball. But all this does is make me long for the old days  when a real virtual ball (wow, real and virtual as adjectives for the same noun)  was given out for the holidays.

Now the free balls that come our way are sponsor gifts with logos and a connection to a sponsored event. And you thought they were gifts from WGT. Guess again; someone paid for those "free" balls. And now you know why WGT switched to effects for the holidays. No one was paying for the free holiday balls and thus they were totally free. That's not going to happen anymore. (Would be nice to have to eat these words but.....)

Simply for the sake of argument, I would like to add to the topic.

Using the recent sleeve of Free Max Gold Balls offer when purchasing 2,000 credits as an example. With the exception of the slow meter, this ball is basically of poor nature. I would think a ball with those specs would not be a favorite by any means.

However, with effects ( free or purchased ) you are able to enjoy an added feature without having to adjust from your favorite, most frequently used ball. Or sacrifice attributes of said ball.

I personally do not use the effects that I have received, but it is nice to have them available of/when the time comes.

As a long time member/player, I have come to understand that anything FREE should be welcomed. I am thankful that WGT is, at the very least, attempting to satisfy its players in some shape or form.

    Don

As people have already noted, it's ball effects that were given away and not balls.

But if you want a free ball then simply enter this month's Chambers Bay Open. Entry is free and there's no requirement to play. You get a free ball for just entering. The ball has the following characteristics:

    • Distance: 2.5
    • Spin: 2.0
    • Meter speed: 2.0
    • Durability: 2.5

Don, you are absolutely right about  the effects meaning that I don't have to change balls to enjoy the "gift". And the fact that I have a wide range of free balls that I never use also points out the irritation caused by getting something free that I didn't ask for.

How about giving WGT giving a logo ball designed for each individual end user. The program reads what ball a player currently uses and duplicates that ball but with the logo of the sponsor.  Thus a useful and appreciated gift.
