Look at this map of St Andrews front 9 only.

It shows a wind direction that is completely opposite from one hole to the next, #5 & #6.

I know it doesn't really matter in the overall scheme of things, as we take each hole on its own merit, but as someone who has played here for real many times, I just find it a little disconcerting. Knowing as you play #8 that you should have a nice tailwind down #9, but no its a bloody headwind.

I think WGT should take more care to replicate the real thing more precisely.

I don't need to see a map of the front 9 at St Andy's...I've played it in real life...shot a 75 over 18 holes (very good conditions)....I played the course next to it 5 days later and had to WD on the 12th tee because the winds were reaching 50-60mph and balls were blowing backwards down the fairway as we went to take our 2nd shot.......I even stopped to help a 75yr old senior player who was being blown in the wrong direction like an empty tracksuit.

Cool thing about St Andrews and most other links courses including RSG is that they are right next to the beach and surrounded mostly by huge f*ck off sand dunes that have a great habit of shaping the wind in every direction (that's just nature at work).... even from hole to hole if it's windy enough then the wind can differ quite a lot....just ask the seagulls who're having the shyte kicked out of their feathers as they experience the hardships of flying in high winds.

maybe not as much sometimes as the random winds here on WGT but WGT's a game mate....and I think it does pretty good to replicate conditions and also likes to throw a few spanners in the works....don't we all know it.

do i like it??? for me it's a love hate thing lol....but we just have to learn to deal with it....that's what improves our game.

^^^Don't get me wrong , I ain't complaining. I agree with you, just thought I would point out a little inconsistency.

I've played links golf in Kent and Scotland and Holland all my life so I know a little about wind too.

How did ya know he was 75 years old ?

This might have been mentioned but if WGT makes the same wind condition on every hole thru a round, there will be some players who will restart until they get the best wind possible. I don't know about you, but I don't want that.

I think it would be interesting if the wind was in the same direction for an entire round. We all know WGT treats each hole as a separate case, hence the different winds, but a nice twist might be not having this as the case.

Does SA ever play that way for 18 IRL?

i think WGT should make it as close to the real course as possible. it is not hard for them to fix the wind but i dont think they employ people that can read or reply to anything that members want or suggest

It's best as it is, for the reasons given by King of the Course. It's the same for everybody so where's the beef?

It is the same for all of us but I do believe that WGT should strive to make the conditions similar to what you would find in real golf.

In terms of St Andrews, the front nine (more or less) runs out in one direction, while the back nine (more or less) runs in again in one direction, opposite of the front.  Kiawah is very similar in that the course is laid out north to south for about half the holes and the other half in the opposite direction.

It is strange to be on the first hole at Kiawah or St Andrews and have a 25 mph wind behind you and then have a 25 mph wind into you on the second hole, this would never happen in real golf.  Both those courses are right on the ocean and indeed the conditions change from day to day and sometimes they start to shift during a round but never from hole to hole.  I have not played RSG in real golf but I assume that course is also laid out as a links course with multiple holes moving the same direction.

WGT has chosen to use the random wind approach from hole to hole which will always result in incorrect winds on a course.  I'd like to see it change but it seems that WGT is happy with this.
