I'll throw my 2 pennies in on this. I think one of the biggest mistakes made by newer players is the desire to purchase longer clubs...just because they can. I think you need to keep each level as a certain challenge. For instance, I've seen way too many Tour Masters playing R11 clubs and Calloway balls. This leaves them nothing to counter the difficulty once they move to Legend.
If you are approaching with nothing but wedge all the time as a Master or TM, the approach from long iron range is going to kill you at Legend...might as well get used to it as a TM in my opinion. Pick a course, play 2 practice rounds, one from the TM tees, and another from the tips. You will notice that in some instances there is a 3 or 4 club difference upon approach.
As a Master, I played with the 270 Yard G10 driver...great club, and more than enough length. As a TM, I play with the R9 and Srixon spin balls. Once I advance to Legend, I will then acquire the R11 and Calloways.
Besides, if you want the game to be fake and easy all the time...Tiger Woods 2012 is 3 blocks down the street on the left...across from the Childcare center and Bowling alley.
