How about a shorter shot timer?

That's exactly what I was talking about. Don't try to force your own ideas onto everyone else. Don't cancel other people's freedoms. I would very much oppose a universally enforced 60-second time limit. An awful idea.

The 90-second time-window is very much appreciated and oftentimes very much needed. For example, at the launch of the game, my meter usually skips like crazy, and it takes a while until it calms down. 90 seconds is more than welcome on such an occasion. Also, I may be in a mood to chat, and so may be my opponent, and in such cases the 90 seconds per shot are more than welcome and often not enough.

No time spent on giving users more freedom is "frivolous". What nonsense!

The way to do it is definitely to emulate TWO: give the game host the option of a 30-second / 60-second / 90-second / no timer. Then everyone can select whatever type of game suits him/her best.

Is the emphasis here on a.) freedoms  b.) chatting  or c). WGT golf?

I believe it's WGT golf. I also believe there are many more golfers that want the game to move along at a respectable pace, one that lets you maintain your groove, than there are that want unfettered chat rights. To sit waiting 30-45 seconds for your opp to tap in is maddening. Or to have the timer run out, have the player come back saying they're sorry the dog was barking, or whatever, and take another 30 seconds or so to shoot is frustrating at best.

A fixed time limit is easiest to administer and 60 seconds is more than enough time to say what you have to say. This is a golf site with an exceptional game, bugs notwithstanding. Time spent on these frivolous pursuits would be better spent working on moving the tees around or getting St. Ugly up and running. If timing options are the answer I'm on board but in the absence of that cut the existing time down so the majority of people that come here to play golf can play at a respectable pace.

60 seconds should be plenty of time, both to play and to chat.  I do my chatting (typing) while my opponent is playing his/her shot.  Rude in real life but ideal for WGT matches.

There is no contradiction between freedom and golf.

WGT shouldn't hold themselves to a lower standard than TWO. If TWO could employ variable shot timers, WGT could certainly do likewise. Until then, I suggest they should leave everything as is and focus on those more important issues YankeeJim mentioned. Real life is stressful enough without having to be stressed by a 60-second shot timer in this golf game as well.

A 60 second timer is more then enough. I play 2 other online games and one has a 45 second time and one has a 60 second timer. The games move along faster and are easier to play because of that reason, On both games youre allowed 2 pauses per round. This game is alright,,but with a little work they can make it better

Again, I might ask why would anyone want to impose their own ideas of what is correct, instead of giving everyone the freedom to decide for themselves what timer suits them best. If a game host selects a timer of 90 seconds and you object to that, simply don't join his/her round. Issue solved. Setting 60 seconds as the default shot timer would be OK with me, but please give us the option to change that to 90 seconds, or 30 seconds, or no timer, like TWO does.

    YankeeJim sez....

"Is the emphasis here on a.) freedoms  b.) chatting  or c). WGT golf?"

Bingo! It's the game that draws me here. Some players I hook up with are no-nonsense cyber-golfers, with a simple hello/good luck, and off we go. Others want to carry on a conversation, and that's fine....I'll join in if I'm in the mood, otherwise the chat light continues to blink incessantly. However, like DoubleMochaMan, I prefer to type when I'm waiting for my turn to hit. To be perfectly frank, if my life became empty to the point of spending 1/4 of my waking hours playing an 18 hole/four hour game on WGT, I'd shoot myself. Most of my shots occur within the first 20 seconds, with short putts occurring in less than 10 seconds. To my knowledge, I've never timed out the shot clock. I firmly believe that some of the quitting that happens in this game is due to slow play. When I taught my son how to play real golf, the first rule I explained to him was, "if you're talking, you'd better be walking". Slow play can kill a real-life golf game, as most golfers know.

well, you got your 30 second timer.. my god.. tried an oakmont back 9 with two other guys and it goes ding.. 25 seconds and you're in zoom view compensating for the wind and hill stuff, zoom back and ding 10 seconds to shoot. omg 30 seconds doesnt seem short but with a fickle game where shots count.. i was thinking, no 30 is way too short even the other guys were like wtf this isn't skeet shooting. Was thinking 60 would be nice. Gonna go try that. 90 is a bit much though. So yeah.. you got your wish for 30 and i'll be avoiding those games unless i want a good laugh. hahahaha

[later edit] whoops i go to check and there's only 90 or 30... i guess it'll be 90 then.. but going to check for a 30 and chuckle.

ok playing a 30 second round with some dude and the meter stutters you have to let it swing by.. pretty much can't make the timer on time when it does that. And when you click to zoom view and see the little flash circle spinning for it to load, takes up more of the time.. forget this 30 second thing.. not gonna make it.

wow is there ever no time when the meter stutters and you have to leave it swing by. Got less than 10 seconds to scramble for a shot after that. They need to add a 45 or 60 second timer.

there's definitely no "going for a pee" in the middle of a match with these 30 second timer games. Got the shaft and cost me a stroke last game, last few seconds was waiting for it to click in the middle and the timer ran out. Sure puts the heat on these guys to get a move-on though.

omg right now i'm playing a 30 sec timer game with 2 amateurs.. they cannot handle this timer. Not recommended to play 30 sec timer games with amateurs.. its for pros only.

i agree 30 seconds is not enough. offering a 45 or 60 in addition to 30/90 would be nice but 30/90 is too wide  a spread . neither one works for me

Why has no one mentioned the difference between the time it takes setting up a shot on a difficult course compared to an easier course. It takes a longer time to set up a shot with big elevation changes and/or strong winds or approach shots/putts on an extremely sloping green. WGT gives you the exact same time for every shot. Does'nt make much sense.
