    LizzieRossetti:

Noooo, the bullet was fired parallel to the ground, I saw it on QI with Stephen Fry so it clearly has to be true. He went on about velocities and tech geek stuff, but apparently all of that shizz is just made up by maths teachers to give them a job an that. Obvious really innit.

It would only be true if the bullet was fired in a vacuum.  The spinning bullet provides additional lift and reduces drag.  Hence the bullet dropped from the hand would hit the ground first.

The following was the opinion of Mark Miles, that mythical giant of scientific discovery, although not known whether he is a golfer or no.

"Everyone here seems to be confusing a hypothetical model illustrating the fundamental reality of gravity vs. reality. That a bullet fired in normal air (a spinning bullet for that matter) questionably horizontal, was within 10% of the time hitting the ground as an object dropped vertically, is proof positive that an object with horizontal speed falls at the same speed as an object dropped vertically, with no relative speed. I think that any joe on the street would assume that the difference in time would have be much greater. Expecting a perfect result under very imperfect circumstances is ludicrous."

And I both agree, disagree, and am momentously confused by this entire notion, interesting though it is.

Hate to be a bearer of bad news, but they don't fall at the same rate, that is why the time is different.  Within 10% doesn't mean at the same time

    Yappy22:
Is there anybody who has played this game for awhile that has dinged a shot and had it go somewhere other than where you aimed it..??? It's happened to me more than once. Water seems to attract your Cally's more than it should.

Yes Yappy, happened to me a few times. So much so that I thought I should go and visit the optometrist just in case I had something wrong with my eyes.

This is, sadly, the reason I do not buy callaways any longer - too expensive to risk for me as I do not enter ready go's etc., and work for the (a lot of) money I invest here - my game has suffered a little with the cheaper balls but I am not pulling off the little hair I have left on my old head as frequently.

    Oh the bullet phenomenon.

    Here's the deal.

    Barrel level.

    Shoot

    drop

    all at the same time.

    Both will hit the ground.

Won't say thieves, but will say  strange, just had one of the balls roll up to the wall on the right at SA nbr 17. It didn't bounce over, barely rolled up to it and was lost. I had just bought these balls, 5th shot on this one and gone. This really is not right. That is just taking your ball. After 1000 plus rounds, this was a first for me on this hole. Doesn't seem right at all. But we are all at the discretion of  the bean counters.

I've long thought that lost balls for OoB is a bit ridiculous.  In the water, OK.  But if it just hops OoB... well, let's say real golfers just walk over and pick it up.  They may curse at it.  But they keep the ball.
