    TarheelsRule:
I would like WGT to ban this shot by just making the only option on the green a putter.  In today's game using a wedge is just a way to avoid a break, an uphill putt etc.  I know they took the spin off it but let's just do away with it WGT.

Why ban a perfectly legal shot? I can't do it well, but those that can should be able to use it.

Banning this shot only takes away from wgt, practice and you will change your mind

Taking the spin off the shot was a good first step for WGT.

The only objection that I have to this shot is that it is too easy.  In real golf if a PGA pro has a 60 foot putt with significant break, how many times have you seen him take out a wedge, very rarely.  In fact in the only times you generally see a pro hit this stop is if the green is shaped in a way to have to cross the fringe to get to the hole.

In WGT before the spin change you saw it all the time.  Now not as much but you still see it, my thought is that if we can't make it as difficult as it should be to hit this shot, then ban the use on WGT.  I consider myself a decent real golf player with a sub 5 handicap and I have played all of the US and Scotland.

There have been less than 5 times when I had a shot that I would have used something other than a putter while on the green in my 45 years of golf.  One of those was at St Andrews where I had to go through fringe, I chose to putt anyway as to not damage the green with my wedge.

I can adapt to anything on here, I just think we need to make the shot more difficult if we are going to allow it.

Mark Calcavechia used a wedge on one of the greens at St Andrews during an open championshp some years ago, due to the fact he was some distance from the hole on one of their monstrous double greens, the divot the shot produced was the size of my hand, many people in the gallery were not amused and you could hear their dissaroval, as it was on the BBC, one of their commetators asked the guest rules official a question "was he (Calcavechia) allowed to do that" to which the official said "yes"

I recently played a round of blitz 9 hole putting, my oppononent used a wedge on every hole to which he produced shots all within 10ft of the hole, needless to say he kicked my ass.

Every course I've ever played, many States, several Counties, Rules plainly state: Absolutely no chipping on the greens, subject to green repair and being banned from the course,

It damages the green and only a complete and total idiot would think it would be okay. The people I've seen doing it on WGT have been the people you would guess doing it - Idiots

They should get rid of this option, it is a putting green.  A putter should be the only thing allowed.

Uhh, up here on the WGT it is just a virtual green. No foolin'.

"Not a blade of short grass was injured in producing this iron shot on the green."

Some courses might have local rules against using other clubs on the green, but the Rules of Golf clearly permit any club to be used anywhere on the course - including on the green - to take any legal shot.
