That's gotta be one of the hardest holes in golf. It's just ridiculous, a par on that is as good as a birdie on any other hole.

If the wind is coming from 6 o'clock or thereabouts off the tee, use the hill that slopes away from the clubhouse as a springboard to get yourself up the fairway as far as possible. If you get it right you will only need a wedge or short iron into the flag. If you are a mere mortal and get it wrong you will be playing from the left rough over the bunker that guards the green, or out of bounds right beside the clubhouse. The difficult thing is guessing how far along the hill you will have to hit to get it to roll along the fairway.

The wind off the tee on that hole determines how many over par you will shoot and the main thing is the drive, get it to stop on the fairway for any chance of making a birdie.

exactly my point every shot has to be perfect in order to have a shot at a birdie. there is very little room for even the smallest error, in reading the wind and where to hit as well as hitting the meter.

St Andrews 17th (The Road Hole) - The reason the Road Hole is the greatest par four in the world is because it's a par five.
