With better clubs/balls its an  easy par.

There's a very small window you have to hit.

First of all you should always play it about 8 yrds short. So if it's 160 to the green in low wind hit full backspin around 152. adjust accordingly for head/tail wind.

With the clubs you're currently using your best hope is a soft one hop off of the front rough.

Also it's preferable to come in a "few" (sometimes just a couple) yards right of the pin. However missing just short is always better than overshooting it.

I remember one time with starter clubs I was able to get it about .08 inches from the cup from the tee. Was definitely a lucky shot...   but overall you just have to practice and get a feel for it. Aside from that play it short and to the right.

    :)

Not an easy shot with starters but when I play, if I am going to miss it, I will miss right. My advise would be to try and stick it in an area big enough to stop it and where u feel good from 2 putting at worse. Next time you play it, play a practice round and putt it all over the green to see what u like.

    Hole 5 - Tricky Par 3

    Tee Shot

This is a long iron tee shot into a green that doesn't want your ball there. The goal is to come in as high and as soft as possible. It will probably not be high enough or soft enough to stay within 5 yds of the hole, but, at that distance, it's still birdiable.

The hole is cut into the left side of a hill that runs from about 7 o'clock to about 1 o'clock from the tees. If you end up on the wrong side of the ridge, you will have a very difficult two putt. If you land left of the hole, you will have a long putt or chip back up the hill.

The ideal landing spot is near the top of the ridge just short of pin high. In a perfect world, the ball will roll down toward the hole leaving you a makeable birdie putt. In reality, it will probably keep on going past the hole half a dozen yards, but at least you'll have a makeable uphill putt.

    Danger short, long, and right.

The bunker in front of the green is the worst possible lie. Avoid it, even if it means going long. From the bunker, play a full swing shot with full backspin and aim to right of the pin three or four feet. With the hole 3 feet above you and the 15-20% hard sand, hit it about 150% of the distance to the hole. (20 yard shot, hit it about like you would a 30 yard shot from a fairway lie). A flop is also an option, but you can't control the roll as well as a full swing. A pitch probably won't clear the lip of the bunker.

I think Burner 2.0 or R11 top level irons are a must for this hole. Without a distance-affecting wind I just play 3i full BS and it holds on a dime by the pin.

    Here for example

152 yrds from the tee. I hit it 145 with full backspin. left me a very make able birdie putt.

Granted it's a little tougher from the 171 pro tees and a lot tougher from the master/legend tees... but it's still the same concept...

It most certainly was a much harder hole when the equipment and balls didn't offer up the same stop on the green as you get now.

    This is a rather lucky example of how the hole can be played, this was from 2009 when I was a master I think;
