Firstly, WOW! I didn't realise this thread was going on. I'm so glad that we actually have people here who do know how to speak and spell proper English.
cricketrules: Sorry, someone had to ;)
Don't be sorry Jack, he needed to be told, whether he liked it or not.
Just finished a book called Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss. Went on a bit too long and got a bit boring in the middle, but it was a good read overall. It's all about punctuation and how it should be used.
Here's one that always bugs me and no one has mentioned it yet - use of 'I' and 'me'. For example, taking a recent event, "JBooch and TdotDoba just lost a WGTLS guild game to Lizzie and I". How many people would you hear saying something like that? It's WRONG!!! It should be "... Lizzie and me". The rule is you take out the 3rd person (Lizzie in this case) and if it still makes sense then it's correct. Well, it doesn't make sense to say "JBooch and TdotDoba lost to I" does it!!! And that's why it should be "me" and not "I". But it would be correct to say "Lizzie and I just beat JBooch and TdotDoba in a WGTLS guild game".
I can only think that people use I incorrectly because it sounds posh. BUT IT IS WRONG!
Y'know, this is about one of the most refreshing threads I've seen in a while in this forum. Nice one Nan.
