Let us, once and for all, debunk an old myth about slow meter clubs at the master level and above.

I'm 63 years old, I need all the help I can get, and a slower meter helps me. I don't have the cat like reflexes I had twenty years ago. I love my G20's ;)

Thank you for sharing your viewpoint, mgbirish, and all the best!

Same to you, gsoup, and may wgt be reading this entire thread with an open mind that welcomes everyone -- fast or slow -- in its zoo, where strange, half-wise half-foolish animals hit little balls with big sticks for the fun and the hell of it.

The game now requires 2 basic things to post really good scores (not great; I'm not talking about the very best players) -- besides a knack for putting

    1. encyclopedic knowledge (course, wind, shot selection, ball performance, etc etc)

    2. quick reflexes (to use the top performing clubs)

If -- if -- new clubs perform similarly to the current top clubs, then part 2 of the equation will be removed, thus making the game too easy, IMO.

In real golf, you need a fast swing speed to play at the highest level. I think the same should be true on WGT, where that factor translates (or should) as a fast meter. In my opinion, with super slow balls, it's already too easy to hit the best clubs and should be made more difficult at the highest level, not easier. The best clubs should be fast and unforgiving ... yielding great results if hit right, disaster if hit wrong. I think any move to make the best clubs, or nearly best, easier to use is a mistake.

(btw, I didn't mean to make your argument sound "idiotic;" and meant no offense.)

Can't wait for the Titleist ProV1 golf balls to slow the driver and iron swings down to the current speed of the Starter putter with Nike balls.  Enough time to make a BLT sandwich before you have to ding the meter.

    Dmm,

With all due respect, if your are a young person, someday you will appreciate the slower swing speed, if you are my age (63), you are doing very good!

If a new set of R11 Irons came out with a slower meter and same specs, I would get em straight away.

My brain doesn't function too well these days..lol. Sometimes a bit slow to click, so I don't worry bout hitting the ding anymore. Just click slightly either side which works pretty good for me.

As I wrote in my initial post, the game must be both challenging at the top with fast meter clubs that offer the best available specs to the best players and accommodating below with slower meter clubs that offer very good specs to the lesser players who find the fast meter clubs maddeningly unwieldy. In other words, these lesser players must accept a compromise in exchange for a slower meter.

Let me add that just as those who have great reflexes must recognize and respect the reality of those who don't, the latter have to return the favor.
