Many on these forums have bemoaned the lack of a putting green (or driving range) and we should not hold our breaths for WGT to create same. Having said that, converting the CTTH courses to "Putting Competitons" would be an easy thing for WGT to do. Instead of setting up approach shots, they simply start you on the green.

If you are an upper tier player, you already know that the difference between a 'good' player and a 'great' player is 90% about putting. Yes, how close and where on the green you land your approach shots is important - however, the best putter usually wins. I for one have had extended periods of "making everything" as well as "making nothing" and would find the ability to literally "practice putting" invaluable.

In a Putting "Best of" competition scenario, the individual with the "most feet of putts made" would win. In other words, not just making putts, but making longer putts - in a 9 hole competition, if anyone actually made all 9 putts, the game would recycle until a putt is missed. The winner might be one who made 11 putts in a row, for example. If no one makes all 9 putts, and say several individuals make 8 putts, the length of putts made is the determining factor. Yes, it would be possible to have a 'tie' for first (and the winner determined by rules similar to what WGT does for RG's and other tournaments).

Anyone else think this idea has merit?

GREAT idea. Reading greens and being consistint on meter speed/release point need the most practice. I like these forums!

From my understanding the greens on the CTTH courses were never mapped for putting.  There is nothing there to work with, other than possibly the mapped roll of the ball when you hit it onto the green.  It's like my little boy when he runs out of cereal... no matter how many times he looks into the bottom of the box, there's nothing there.

In which case, the "putting courses" can be derived from existing courses where the greens are 'mapped'?
