Lack Of Backspin

  Let me begin by saying that I'm here since June, 2009 and have in excess of 600 ranked rounds under n=my belt,.....I'm a level 88 master with a scoring avg of 65.

  In my bag, I'm equipped with 2 Cleveland wedges,....both are supposedly designed to produce a fair amount of back spin when dot is set at the nadir of the ball.

  Everyone I play who have these clubs, do spin the ball to a great deal....especially with Calloway and Nike balls.

  Here's my issue,......I NEVER once experienced a spin that allows my ball to "check up and roll back to any degree....ever!"   Now  I'm not implying that I need to have it back up,...it's simply the idea,...my WGT G13-S ball reacts just the exact same as a "Calloway Z...or a Nike ball as well as the Srixon......Ive used them all . Now when I hit a Cleveland 90 yard wedge with "any of these balls",..level green....it lands and stops or rolls ahead very slightly...and I hit the shot with FULL backspin!  Puzzling at best!!

  I just want to say that I can live without that "cute sucking up action"....I simply want some pne to explain to me just why I'm unable to get that "spin" with Cleve;and wedges and a Nike ball! ...Any thoughts????   Tks   jack

  I just noticed this this morning while trying out the new nike balls.  My 80 and 60 Cleveland wedges usually snap my calloway Z back a good 10 yds with full backspin. Today I was trying the nike ball, and it would just hit , thud, and stop, at most 6 inches of backspin.  I did this several times with my 60 80 and 115 clevelands, was scratching my head  thinking these are supposed to have more spin than the cally's.  Then I went and switched back to my old callys, went to same hole, same conditions, and it did the same thing as the nike ball, barely ANY spin when using full backspin..Loaded up a diff course, diff green, same thing.  Something has changed since last update, bigtime..

  Jack... I gave up a long time ago trying to hit my wedge beyond the pin and have it back up to the hole.  It's like a "backspin barrier" around the hole.  Hit the ball to the pin with backspin off your wedge and it backs up away from the hole.  Hit it past the hole and it backs up very little or not at all.

  Are you hitting chip shots on downhill-slopes? Play a practice round and hit various shots around the green.

  I've noticed the spin bug has been fixed and WGTicon confirmed that the Developers were working on a fix as well. The ball checks-up nicely for me with a Z-Satin or Ping wedges. Those Cleveland wedges will spin a Nike ball off the green.

  That's a mystery.

  You are also using the low level Clevelands.

  Purchase the 3 high level Cleveland wedges rated for 60, 80 and 100 yards.

  IF you apply any backspin to theses clubs, they will spin like crazy.  But, the good news is they all stop on a dime using no backspin therefore allowing you to hit for a specific yardage.

  I wish to thank you all for your input!!   First ...I was not aware that the clubs vary a lot as to what level they were issued,...leaning something every day!

  Having learned that,...I will not attempt to purchase the higher level wedges,..simply because I'm rather content with the ball just landing softly and stopping near where it lands,....I'm not that good to intentionally hit 3 yds past the hole and spin it back!!

  Besides...Ive seen players hit shots landing inches from the hole and wind up with a 15 foot putt!!

  Again,,..I thank all who offered sensible replies to my post!  "Civility" is alive in the forum!! LOL

  Totally agree with this.  In fact, the 64 and 60 can spin back without putting any backspin on, especially with some headwind.  You can get backspin punching out of the rough, and even spin back starter balls.  Crosswinds can give you sidespin, too!  With good balls and full backspin, you can literally spin off the green.  I love 'em!

  The best part, though, is the control they give your short game.  That's really the only place you'll usually want to use full backspin, other than maybe the 56 with a tailwind.

  Actually, I take that back, the best part is the incredible precision the top level Clevelands give to all your wedge shots.
