Having learned that,...I will not attempt to purchase the higher level wedges,..simply because I'm rather content with the ball just landing softly and stopping near where it lands,....I'm not that good to intentionally hit 3 yds past the hole and spin it back!!

There's a lot to be said for this. I see so many players shoot themselves in the foot trying to be dramatic and spin the ball to where they want. This happens with the higher level CGs and doesn't have to. Like was pointed out above, no spin with these wedges is the key to a lot of good shots, not spinning the daylights out of it.

Whatever it takes to get close.  ;-)

I have learned u almost never use bs on the 64 or 60 Cleves on full shots - the main advantage of these clubs is 30/40% rough means nothing to them - and if you are 50-85 yds out - its birdie time!

The point made above about the clevelands giving precision to your short game is spot on. Since i got them i love playing from green side. After putting it has become my fav part of the game.

Heh. I can vouch for this. Dang Spack will punch your lights out with them now if he doesn't pitch one in on ya.  ;-)

At this point I'm totally confused with backspin with Cleveland 56 L76 & 64 L80. I just had a shot on Beth. hole 4, 38yd from fairway to pin. I've been trying to practice drawing back the shot. I hit a ding shot, full backspin,  to go 6yds past the hole. It went 4yds past and stuck. On other similar shots, I've put the ball spot half down and it backs up 7yds. At this point I don't know what to expect.

Stop using it for a while. Just learn how to hit the club to the distance you want and watch what happens. That 64W needs some top spin just to keep from drawing back. A full swing with no change in the default spin will back up 2-3 feet every time, more if the wind and slope of the green come into play.

As soon as you put any kind of back spin on those 2 wedges they're backing up. This is what makes them so nice-you don't need the spin to stop them. Trust them, they choke well and are very controllable without spin once you trust them to stay put.  GL

    I agree YJ !!

I developed a real bad habit of using too much backspin on almost all my shots, it is extremely cool when you plan backspin correctly and the ball goes beyond the hole and sucks back to the perfect distance.....but for me B/S was hurting me more than helping me. Hard habit to break...also, if you always use B/S you will never get the "roll-out" shots that occasionally drop into the hole !

I've been trying to practice drawing back the shot.

These wedges will not spin back on partial shots, punches, flops, pitches, or chips - as a general rule. Only on full shots at least 90%. Backspin will, however shorten these shots and they will stick. My experience is that attempting to 'spin back' after hitting yards beyond the hole is a low percentage shot and can easily cause you to go from birdie opportunity to par or worse. On full shots, they will spin back a bit with no spin applied - they can also be deadly with topspin when you need a few yards past their range- and will roll out predictably a couple yards or stop if uphill is a factor.

My advice - do not use backspin on full shots except rarely (e.g.,severe downwind/downhill) - and even then we are talking a 'shosh'. Never use full backspin on full shots (punches, flops, pitches and chips excepted- and these take practice). I say this because I have seen in multiplayer games that the odds of pulling off a stunning shot vs a poor one are about 1 in 10. As i said, a low percentage shot.

So the 38yd shot I tried shooting it for 45yds to back up, stopped instead of backup because it's a partial swing from a 60yd iron? Only shoot for a 50yd shot so it will back up from a full swing from a 60yd iron?

If this ? sounds confusing, welcome to my world
