    What do people look at first when they want to invite some one to play....average or their awards?

    I look at the average MOST of the time, but sometimes people with a below-70 average, i will look at their awards.

    I find GIR and FIR gives me the best indicator.

    If you want to play againt somebody that is really good, check their stats to see if they have more birdies than pars.  That's right, PARS.  Some on this site are that good!

    Cheers!

    Indeed you do.  Nice club, btw.  ELCC?  13 TL's?  Not bad!

    Really good club. Fortunately lots of handicap events too so we can keep up with the TLs. :)

    I don't look at any statistic when invited for a game, I will play against anyone as long as they aren't an @rse or a quitter.

    Statistics on here are only a good indication of ability if the players have been playing for roughly the same time. Players who were playing when the standard of balls and clubs were a lot lower than they have been for the last 18 months will have their statistics dragged down. As an example I illustrate my own.

    In August 2011 I completed my 5,000th ranked round. Stats were;

    Eagles        415

    Birdies   23,460

    Pars       29,529

    Bogeys    3,939

    Doubles      381

    Others           56

    This is the equivalent of 3,210 full 18 hole rounds. Holes played under par is 42.32%

    Currently I have played 7,299 ranked rounds and the totals are;

    Eagles        988

    Birdies   37,071

    Pars       40,196

    Bogeys    4,616

    Doubles      422

    Others           56

    This is now the equivalent of 4,630.5 full 18 hole rounds. Now the holes played under par percentage increases to 45.67%. If however you take the difference between the totals, over the last 1,420.50 full 18 hole rounds the holes played under par percentage increases to 55.48%.

    Put another way, average birdies per round, the stats are 7.31, 8.01 & 9.59 for the same periods.

    I don't believe for a minute anyone would go into the depth I have here when assessing who to play but these stats show there is a huge difference in my play over the last 18 months, compared to the first 18 months. This is of course before you even consider a percentage completion of ranked rounds started.
