    Should be outlawed.

I am getting fed up with players using irons on greens, when it first started it was now and again but its now getting stupid, where has the skill of putting gone ffs.

OK it don't say in the rules of golf you can't use a iron on a green, but come on guys normally 9 times out of ten in a proper game you would use your putter, or get kicked of the course by the greenkeeper.

Golf etiquette states that player should take care of the course at all time, preferring a iron over a putter to me breaks this etiquette. OK its only a game, but when you gain an advantage over a player with a really good approach shot, then they come alone and chip it in the hole from 20 feet away on the green, is not playing the game how it was meant to be played.

Nope because they can't change something that is legal in real golf. Aslong as your not making a divot your fine. Youtube phil mickelson using wedge on green. This is the most realistic game and golf and that's why it's allowed. Icon has already mentioned this in another post months ago.

How the game should be played:

"Play from tee to hole in ... the fewest strokes" (Rules 1 + 2 + 3).Neither putting from tee, fairway or bunker is off limits nor driving from the fairway (remember Bubba?) nor chipping on the green.

Talking about care for the course etc. in this WGT world is bla-bla because there ain't no nature to preserve here (except for turning off the PC to save energy).

So, as long as the strokes work there's no reason to complain.

I rather look up to the skills of those players who get their advantage from imaginative shots.

    It's within the USGA rules.

There are certain spots on a couple greens where it would be impossible to putt and get anywhere close.

I guess I don't understand why this is so irritating to people. Sure it's ridiculous to substitute a wedge for the putter 80% of the time. And, IMO, if they would learn how to putt they would score better putting. As long as it's within the rules, to each their own.

According to the FAQ published by both the USGA and the R&A, under Rule 14-1:

Using Club other than Putter on Putting Green?

    Q.  Is it permissible to use a club other than a putter to play a stroke on the putting green?

    A.  Yes, the Rules of Golf do not stipulate the type of club that must be used for making a stroke on the putting green or anyplace else on the golf course.

While I agree that the shot may be OVERUSED by some players, it has its place in your arsenal, do yourself a favor and learn how to play the shot and when it is appropriate it WILL save you 1-2 strokes!

Perhaps WGT could have tutorial on how to chip on the greens then to make it fair for everyone.

    LMFAO

I understand that you do not approve of the overuse (this is how I read your argument), and while I agree with you there, I also agree with Alosso's reply about how this shot has its' place.  I use a wedge on the green under certain circumstances, simply because it is the best way to either make birdie or eagle, or at least get close.  I do not overuse the shot, but I do use it.
