I say this as one of the many players who have merrily bought everything going on WGT immediately on release, so perhaps it's a bit hypocritical.
Yes compared to going to the pub, cinema, restaurant etc this is cheap entertainment. Is it cheap entertainment when you are comparing apples with apples though? How does the game compare to the likes of playing the Call of Duty franchise of games?
If you are starting the game now and working towards ending up with the best of equipment, upgrading along the way to be competitive, this game will see you shell out 20,000 credits til you get there. That is purely on equipment, god knows how much you'll spend on balls.
Call of Duty will cost you £40 in the UK and if there's 5 or 6 titles then you're up at the same cost without the ongoing cost of having to purchase bullets (balls). This game most definitely is not cheap entertainment when comparing it to a similar video game experience.
Why do we do it? One thing......this game somehow manages to maintain your interest in a way that call of Duty does for about a week. And that is why WGT have us all by the short and curlies, willing to pay over the top prices continually.
Tomacco anyone?
