The distance may not be a lot more, but what I found was that even though it shows the new R11s to have the same meter speed as the R11 the meter seems to be smoother for the new R11s. The R11 seemed to accelerate right at the end. the R11s stays smoother through the entire meter travel.

It's all getting a bit Emperor's new clothes around here now with these club releases......looking forward to the next line of irons anytime soon. So much distance and spin on them we'll all be using starter balls to prevent our approaches back spinning off the greens :)

This used to be the difference between the Tri and the R9. Is this similar?

    Hey guys.

Here is the technical evaluation of the new driver.  On a Standard ball the R11s is 2 yards longer (which is at least 5-8 yards longer with more advanced balls). The whole dot of forgiveness is meaningful when it comes to play in high winds or slight misses. Many times I have to aim to a specific spot and when you miss 1-2 lines late or early, wind effect seems to be minimized by the R11s. The whole dot of forgiveness is quite important there (on a 5 dot scale, it's 20%). I played several rounds with it and purposely missed with and against the wind. To me, it seems more effective than previous with keeping my original line. When you play tight fairway or high wind course, this driver will become essential.

I hope we get a similar 3 wood. A 250 yarder would be superb.

Thanks for the technical explanation Icon. I realise you have to toe the company line on these issues but this driver wont become and isn't essential. The existing driver has been good enough for hundreds of top players, probably thousands of players, to be able to go out and shoot fantastic scores in the toughest conditions on the toughest courses.

Do these players really need extra forgiveness in a club? The bottom line is this is yet another example of WGT tip toeing along the line of small incremental improvements to generate money. You can dress it up as an "essential" all you want but the WGT community aint stupid. We are well aware of the lunacy we're paying for and in the main extremely happy to continue to do so. There is however a fine line in the sand where eventually people say no. I hope to god we're there or thereabouts otherwise the challenge in the game just isn't going to be there anymore for a lot of people.......

Olympic has tight fairways and with heavy winds I would imagine it qualifies as a course where you could use that little extra Icon alluded to.
