My worst and most hated hole is the #15 at Beth Page Black.  Can't ever seem to get the right approach.  I like the English courses though.  The winds are such a huge challenge.  But Beth Page..................hate it!

    and this!

Oakmont #9 is my biggest nightmare.I usually go for the bunker and hope to knock it close out of the sand. Never, ever birdied this hole with maybe a few pars.

and this one takes my cake......10% par for me here, its an unfair hole to say the least

If you play your approach shot to the far left side of the green about 1/3 of the way up it will funnel down to the hole leaving you a chance at birdie and with luck an eagle. I have made eagle on it twice playing it that way.

Born is right on this hole.

The other key is making sure you take enough club to be long.  I can't remember the exact numbers but I think the green is around 36 up, I generally take one more full club than the distance and land between the left fringe and pin, the ball will look like it is going to stay on top but roll down and end up pretty close and once in a while go in.

This is one hole that is actually easier from the Legend tees, I believe that we get a good advantage on the tee since the US Open used a shorter tee for this hole.   For the killing that we get on the tees at Kiawah and St Andrews we deserve a break or two.

I struggle with st. andys 7, with the starters I can't reach the fairway! and the green is crazy!

STA hole 7 is struggle with starter clubs.

You can hit your tee shot well left into the short fairway over there leaving you a shot of around 155 (I think) to the green.  If you go straight and end up short you usually are in rough that won't allow you to clear the bunker (esp with starter clubs).  The green seems to run away from a shot coming in to the back position so you should anticipate that the ball is going to run an extra 5 or 6 feet.

This is what the guys mean........I play 20 yds extra and full backspin.  Good luck.

This is a good way to play with the starters, and the way some locals play this hole. just just a note of caution - do not go too far left as in this game it is OB if you overcook the shot left

I really like the natural beauty of St A 7 with starters. I usually hit 3h or 3w depending on wind to the left fairway. Then it's a beautiful long iron or punch wood to the green using the ground short to funnel the ball to the right pin position by just missing the bunker short. Par is truly a great score and it's so different than most any other hole played that way.

Playing it with starters and Uneven Lies and High Wind, now that's a challenge. :-)
