Wow what a match I've just had with Steve, totally bonkers and so much fun. Bless him though, I think he went through a couple of clothes as he said he was sweating pretty bad lmao. Where do we begin. I guess firstly I gotta give massive kudos to Steve's game, totally brilliant and gave me some serious scares.
I took a 1 up lead on 1 with bird, Steve unfortunately just missed the cup from long range. On two Steve had a nice tidy birdie from close range, then rather annoyingly from 5 foot under that cup I had a meter skip and pushed it way right, so we went back to level. Next 4 holes we traded blows with a host of birdies, Steve was knocking every pin down and nailing every putt to put some real pressure on me. He was obviously really on his game at this point once he settled down. On the 16th he played a delightful shot from around 170 im guessing which tucked up 5 feet under the pin. Putting a little pressure on my next shot, I tugged one left and left a 13 footer across the break which I lipped out on the lower side...Steve goes 1 up. 17th we both played soild tees and took birds. Then more drama, Steve tugged his drive into the left rough and played a very nice shot from 40/50 round just on to the rough in front of green for easy chip. From the middle of the fairway with 82 to go and a 10 tail wind, I stepped up with my 60deg wedge with a few pixels of TS and rolled her in for a holeout fairway eagle to take us back to all square with the prospect of SD,.
So on to SD we go. Steve plays his approach 10 long and I almost make it back to back holeout eagles from 194yds as I lip around the edge and leave it inches from the hole. In all honesty, I thought that might have been enough as Steve had a tricky breaker down the hill, but true to the rest of his round he nails one dead centre to halve the hole with birds :)
Next SD hole, a 7mph wind that didnt play one bit from 134 left us both 10 foot long behind the pin with that tricky misreading downhiller. I putted first and got my birdie, unfortunately for Steve huis didnt take the break and missed on the high side. So in a totally thrilling match with some truly remarkable golf from my opponent, I managed to shake him off after 2 SD holes. Brilliant match.
