The USGA much prefers that their championship courses play to a par 70, which tends to eliminate 2 of the par 5 holes, making them long par 4 holes. This can be done easily by moving up to the members tees in many cases and giving you a par 4 that plays around 500 yards. In terms of the 2 at BPB, the first par 5, I think plays to about 515 from the back tees, it isn't a par 4 because it is virtually impossible to reach due to the bunkers and rough that are about 300 out and the high elevation change to the green.
Although #7 is technically longer, 525 from my tees it plays to a slight dogleg and a fairly flat green. I can always reach with a fairway wood or a long iron, on the #5 hole I can very rarely reach with any club and if I hit it over the greenside bunkers I can't stop it on the green and it goes well over into the rough.
