WGT...
OUTSTANDING! I just shot through my first round on Oakmont and this course is a Force of Nature. Already I see similarities to how I felt when I first played Bethpage a year ago.
COMPLETED My first round with a Stroke Total of 78. (+8)
Frankly, I am GLAD I did not easily shoot a 68 on it the first round. This will be tough.
I will enjoy getting my "arms around it", learning it and improving my play. I expect alot of frustration...BUT - that is what has kept Bethpage so engaging (and remains so) even after 1 Year. Time will tell where the similarities lie and where they diverge, as Oakmont has a distinct feel that does set it apart from all others.
TO THE SERIAL DISCONNECTORS AND AVERAGE PROTECTORS - Be prepared for a severe jolt to your average. Take it in stride, STAY CONNECTED, Learn how to play the course and the Average will smooth out soon enough!
PREDICTION....There will be complaining. LOL (When isn't there?)
#1 "The 299 Yard Par 3 # 8 is too long and unfair! I just joined WGT a week ago and made Master yesterday and now my Starter Driver can only get 2/3 of the way to the green! WGT is unfair! WAHHHH!" (WE ALL had the same complaint a year ago about reaching the FAIRWAY at BPB #5 - oh the memories)
#2 "Tournament Green Speeds are not fair. WAHHHH!" BE PREPARED TO HAVE 10 FOOTERS ROLL 20 FEET PAST THE HOLE! ESPECIALLY IF DOWNHILL!
I am sure we will hear other "comments" as well.
EXCELLENT JOB, WGT.
