If I could play with either UEL and Legend greens or even lies and Champ greens, I'd choose the former on Kiawah and the latter on St. Andrews.
I carded 3 18s on Kiawah plus the final at St. A. Of those, I handled the UEL best on the very first round, with a single-digit average to the pin. Unfortunately, my putting just killed me on Kiawah.
In the final round I don't think I put a fairway approach within 10 feet more than 3 times.
Best shot: At. A #7 approach. My tee shot rolled to an improbable stop halfway up the far slope of the bowl in front of the shell bunker. Knocked it to 7 feet with the help of a nice long roll-out.
Worst shot: 18th approach on St. A, a 9 iron into the wind. Just an awful combination of bad shot selection, giving the lie effect too little credit, and missing the ding. Landed on the front slope and rolled back off the green. Missed a touchy 7-footer for par. Bogeying the last hole sucks.
It was a heck of a lot of fun. It took me 90 minutes to play the final 18 (yeah, that's a kind of fun). I'm looking forward to the next one.
And, of course, I have to add that the UEL effects are still way too unrealistic. They are playable, but it moves the game a step away from "golf simulation" and a step toward "golf-based entertainment product".
