The back 9 is slightly easier.

    Take care with the trees.

Legend has it that one year At Olympic they took down a tree and a thousand golf balls fell out.

Since the search function is back ---------------------->

search for Olympic, when it was first released there were many threads with advice.

I have just finished playing the front nine and I'm a little frustrated because I was -5 after 6 holes, then this short 7th hole seems to always come to haunt me...288 yards par 4 .

Any tips on how to play this hole,is it better to play safe with an iron and have a full wedge to the green or go for the green in one.?

I went for the green, the wind was favorable, missed the ding, ended up in the trap short of the green, trap shot short down the hill, short on the first putt, back down the hill farther then before,2 more putts for bogey.

Such a tough little hole if you miss your drive.

    Ended up finishing -3.

    DESAPOINTED!!!

    Regarding #7:

First shot on the green or second shot on the top shelf, that's how I play it.

That is, aggressive with low winds, and aiming behind the flag with the second.

For Olympic as a whole, one hint is to think of a faster green on downhill putts.

Some of it depends upon your tees and the wind of course.

It is a very easy hole if you lay up about 50 yards short and then make sure to play just past the hole on your 2nd shot since below it will roll way back.

You can get on the green with the right wind and tee but you chance the traps and rough.

This is an easy wedge punch, just make sure you get on the top shelf. In fact, just about any 2nd shot that doesn't make the green or fairway is a wedge punch up. Once you learn that you won't have 2nd thoughts about going for the green. :-)

The first 6 holes are very tough so shooting -5 was remarkable. The 7th hole is like a trap. You've broken away from the opening slog and there's this little par 4 that begs to be birdied. Being over aggressive is very easy to do . Sometimes I lay up and sometimes I go for the green depending on the wind and how I'm dinging it that day.

Olympic greens are really awkward, at least they are for me anyway.  Downhill putts run way further than expected and uphill ones need hitting way harder than you think.  It seems as if the height changes are a bit dodgy, when it says 4 inch drop or rise think of it as 6 inch and you'll be nearer the mark.

I always go for #7, with anything than a headwind I usually make the green and if it lands short it's still a choked punch shot to get to the top level.  The R11s driver's extra forgiveness is a big help with the tee shot of course.

Olympic is still my least favourite course though, I guess if I played it more but since I don't like it I tend to avoid it a bit......

    Catch 22 anyone?
