    MainzMan:

Olympic greens are really awkward, at least they are for me anyway.  Downhill putts run way further than expected and uphill ones need hitting way harder than you think.  It seems as if the height changes are a bit dodgy, when it says 4 inch drop or rise think of it as 6 inch and you'll be nearer the mark.

I always go for #7, with anything than a headwind I usually make the green and if it lands short it's still a choked punch shot to get to the top level.  The R11s driver's extra forgiveness is a big help with the tee shot of course.

Olympic is still my least favourite course though, I guess if I played it more but since I don't like it I tend to avoid it a bit......

    Catch 22 anyone?

can anyone tell me few examples wen i should use that punch shot other then wen around trees?

The punch provides us with "additional clubs" by adding new distances for 100% shots. This works best with the wedges. Try them, and take care that they fly lower, land earlier and roll more than full shots. They may need more backspin for proper distances.

    Proper examples are

    - RSG#17 with low-level clubs - the best way to get the second shot up that ridge IMHO.

    - RSG#3, where most full shots will either stick in the ridge or shoot over the green. A well-timed punch allows for a good roll up to the flag.

I can't give specific examples but as Alosso has already said it's a useful shot if you're between distances with your wedges.

My wedges hit 100, 75 and 50 yards full.  Punch is (I think!) 83, 72 and 41.  If I find myself 80 yards from the hole it's easier to play a punch with a fraction less than full power than try to take 20 yards off a full shot.  You do need to use more backspin to get them to stop quickly, the ball flight is lower so they roll more on loanding.

Give it a try, you might need a while to get the hang of punches but once you master them it's like having 3 extra wedges in your bag, 4 if you do it with your PW too.

Nearly forgot, it's a useful shot for hacking out of heavy rough too and as you already know, for keeping the ball under trees.

Most WGT players think that the punch is mainly for getting out of the deep rough, it does work well out of the 30/40 rough, full b/s will do well.

However as mentioned above the real value is that the punch can fill in the gaps between clubs and also help to limit the effect of the wind from time to time.   I use the R11 irons which have consistent 15 yard gaps between each iron, the punch can limit that to less than 15 yards and with b/s or t/s you can often get your gaps down to about 5 yards.   Also on the courses like STA and RSG with lots of wind, the punch can often limit that.

One thing I noticed was your wedges. If I were you I would replace your 2 WGT wedges with 2 Pings to match the one you have. Maybe the 64 degree and the 54 degree. Better wedges punch much better than the WGT wedges do. Simply because of the better precision and better spin. The more spin your wedges have the less extra B/S you have to use to get good results. And with the best Cleveland wedges you actually get the best results with no added B/S or even a slight amount of T/S
