My thanks to Rockitch, Mantis0014,angelsgolfing, Jimbog1964 for your input.

Little has changed on my grand plan and I'm still enjoying the game. I did dip in for the TM three wood at 695 as I was getting seriously dischuffed at never reaching the par fives. Since I'm a goodly ways away from any more purchases this didn't seem a profligate move. It'll still be a couple of weeks before I reach Level 68 and need to make a decision on the irons - whether to buy or hold out.

Two constants remain. Since you can't win any money on the game I'm holding (for the time being at least) to my no pay for play principle. Secondly I still just can't justify spending on balls when I haven't got the clubs to hit them straight with.

I guess I'm a bit too much of  a newbie here to be making recommendations as to how WGT could improve the game, but there is one thing I'd like to see. Perhaps it's been done already and I just haven't found it yet. If it does exist then maybe someone could kindly, let me know where to find it. I refer to a monthly closest to the hole putting competition, measured in inches rather than feet. The CTTH games are a perfect way to practice ones approach play, but no such option exists for putting. Since this is arguably the most difficult part of the game wouldn't it be nice to be able to take putt after putt to practice this demanding aspect of WGT?.I wouldn't care about winning just the opportunity to hone my skills. It would certainly help me and I suspect many others learn how to read greens.

Just a thought and sorry if it's all been debated before.

    No practice ground whatsoever. Never!

That's what I took from all the discussions.

I've been tootling along doing a few Tournaments (even won two lots of three whole credits), doing a CCTH every morning to pick up the daily bonus (might do better if I bothered to aim) and broadly minding my own business. My plan has remained to get to level 68 then make a decision on a nice new set of irons. The thinking being that my arrival at that level would coincide with the funds to make said purchase. However the credits have been rolling in faster than expected (400 odd yesterday) which means whilst still only at level 61 I will probably have enough for the Ping G20s come the weekend. So I crave your thoughts. Would you buy the Pings or wait probably an extra week for the level 68 set of Taylor irons?

Any input, or for that matter alternative iron set suggestions much appreciated.

    Fekdrink.

My tuppence worth for what it is , is stick it out till level 79 and purchase the Taylormades , you've done fantastic as you are to reach the level you are. The level 79 TM's offer high loft and fantastic spin and will take you all the way to legend, all the while you will be learning the courses and making you a better player overall. As I said thats just my opinion.

I absolutely take your point Mushy01 and am grateful for the kind words. The only problem is I'm just beginning to get a little frustrated with my approach play - it's really holding me back. I don't mind waiting a little while longer, but it will take me a goodly while to reach Level 79. My last round was a case in point. I shot two over at Bethpage. Nothing remotely spectacular by any standards but the thing is I didn't putt too badly at all. 27 in total and no three putts. Now with a half decent GIR stat that sort of putting should equate to a sub par round. Unfortunately mine was 39%. The starter irons aren't too bad where you can run the ball in (as on St Andrews or St Georges), but when you have to drop the ball on the green or hit a pin close to the rough or a bunker it's a real pig not being able to stop the damn thing quickly.

I've been very patient thus far and may well follow your excellent advice but it's going to be tough waiting for several more weeks when i know I have it i me to shoot much lower scores.

    Decisions, decisions.

Just perused through the whole thread. Nothing to add to the advice already given.

Merely stopped by  to say what a most enjoyable & pleasant read.

Interesting to see someone 'grow' in the game.

Good luck for the future here in WGT land, 'Fekdrink'..... or is it Jack?

    :O)

Thanks for the kind words WigerToods2010. My intention from the very first post was to catalogue the trials and tribulations of playing the game, the thought processes and of course the mistakes made.

You're absolutely right of course about the "Father Ted" reference. Two of Father Jack's favourite words. The other two being "Girls" and "Ar*e". i suppose I could have used the latter two, but "Girlsar*e" would not have been a great screen name. But then that would have been an ecumenical matter.

Apologies to the non Brits on the forum for whom the last paragraph was probably complete gibberish.

Moved up to 1 850+ credits this morning so the decision on whether to go for the Pings or wait for a better set of irons moves ever closer. I'll probably have the funds tomorrow or Monday.

Did you calculate how much credits you need for the top shelve clubs you want to end up with in a couple of months ? Let me tell you that will probably be around and possibly over 10.000 credits..... playing every day it will only take you about 3 months more before the high level (>75)  clubs become available. Buy now and be sorry later....patience is a virtue.

Rockitch, excellent advice as ever and my heartfelt thanks for your continued input.

To date I've been playing 53 days, amassed 109 000xps and roughly 5 400 credits, Which conveniently works out at approximately 2 000xps and 100 credits a day. Using another thread, I've copied the following xps needed to reach certain milestones and added the number of days it will take me to reach them at current rates and the number of additional credits I would have accrued upon reaching said milestones.

    L79    200,000. 45 days, 4 500 credits

    L85    300,000. 95 days, 9 500 credits

    L90    500,000. 195 days, 19 500 credits

L95    1,000,000. Not worth thinking about, a lot,

L97    1,500,000. Beyond the grave, my children will have a lot to spend on clubs.

Currently I have a pornstars' bag. Two big ones and not much else. What I need to do now is balance it out by getting half decent irons, wedges and putter. Clearly the decision which needs to be made is which to buy, in what order and when. My current balance is 2 203 credits. A little bit of window shopping at the Pro Shop is in order I think.

    And then the maths starts.
