It took me 23 completed rounds to shoot a 57, add to that at least another 20 restarts where I had played at least 6 holes. Every approach shot I hit I took a note of the distance, wind and elevation and then the club and spin. I've got 18 pages of notes to refer to. Of the other 22 rounds I had six 59s, six 60s and six 61s all legitimately.

That took me close to 24 hours over 2 days, a serious amount of effort and grind to get that one score that should qualify. There are many many players better than me that won't require that effort.

I could get seriously pissed at people like you who make sweeping statements like you have above but I don't, I used to think that way myself. Just because you cannot do something yourself does not mean there aren't many out there who have more ability, more determination and dedication than yourself that can. I can assure you there are loads of them.

I'm really glad you posted this. It gives many of us a look into what it really takes to score very well. Your explanation of events is superb but my takeaway  is very simple. To be successful you have to be willing to sacrifice. What you've done to succeed is do the things others are unwilling to do to be successful. That's always a trait of the most successful people.

Much great luck in the Open and thank you for the inspiration.

I'm sick of people who criticize players for calling attention to those ridiculous Leader board scores with the tired rant about them simply not being "good enough! BS

I mean....come on..........the cut line is currently -10 under Par on a course with greens this sloped and tough? Give me a friggin break WGT....what the hell is realistic about THAT?

Absolutely realistic, this is an internet game based on golf, it isn't real golf.

I've said it before , I'll say it again, there is no legit way to consistently shoot in the 50's., because WGT throws in too many random curve balls for those scores to be possible. Winds, green conditions, shots not always doing what you expect and your basic run of the mill technical glitches makes it an impossibility to achieve those scores on a consistent basis legitimately.

    Chris,

So glad you posted this...should make a few think before speaking the old "those who consistently....are etc..."

I always say look at the RG leader boards..you see many top players with WD's...look at single play weeklies...many top players are not shown..mostlikely because they WD'ed.

It's not that anyone consistently shoots in the 50's, it's that they have the ability to do so.

    Nice 57 BTW!!!

Thanks Mike but if I'm honest, it was the worst 57 of any of the 20 that have been scored. If you check the leaderboard you will see me listed as the last of the 57s. The reason being that I was -13 after 13 holes and then made par on every hole therein. A combination of a touch of the earlies, a metering and some bad luck meant I was cursing myself at the end of it, lol.

Sums me up perfectly, always a nearly man :)

Thanks Cerino. To be frank, this is the first time I have taken notes and I have done so because the number and quality of top players in this game has increased hugely in the last 2 years. For me to try and stay as close as possible to these guys and girls, I need all the help I can get :)

It is difficult for all the players to shoot consistent in the 50's.  If you took all the restarts and quit games into account it wouldn't be that low.

Howvever the multiple qualifying helps the lessor player more than the good player.  The really good players can play 5 rounds and put up a score good enouth to make the tournament.  For the middle level players, it might take 25 rounds to put up something that gets you in.   Limiting the efforts will end up moving up the cut line but also making even more of the elite players in the field.

If you don't want to play in this tournament, don't.  It's free so it costs you nothing.

Nice score tiffer and nicely put,it takes time and dedication to nail any course or the game.i have 12-15 rg's a day now sadly because of being out of work, when i get back into work things will change. while i don't win as many rg's as i'd like- good scores are possible for anyone who puts the time in.im not a golfer just a games player, was a ps3 player before i found this was in top 2k in the world,so playing one game to nail isn't as hard really.the top guys here are simply THAT good.i myself are struggling here at merion 3 full rounds best at 61 as of yet,had a round yesterday 7- thru 6 8 pars later after crappy meter i retired but it shows the scores are possible,im nowhere near best on here.i win a fair share of rg's but for newish player im happy.the guys that have been doing it for 4 years quite simply they are better than me and i can't complain,gl all out there ROCKY
