Thanks for your concern, Rich.
We are OK, as we live about 50 miles NW of Houston, and our house sits up on a bit of a hill. It would take a flood close to what Noah faced for us to flood.
Sadly, for so many residents closer to Houston or closer to the coast where it's flatter, over 50 inches of rain so far combined with the runoff from the hills has started flooding of Biblical proportions. Corpus Christi is about 200 miles west of Houston. So perhaps as much as an area of 300 miles long by 50 miles wide (my estimate) has major flooding in multiple places.
When it finally stops, things will probably be worse than the aftermath of Katrina, 12 years ago. They estimate between 300,000 and 500,000 vehicles will be totaled due to flood damage. I would think that as many as 150,000 people or more will be homeless and living in shelters.
Truly a disaster of mega proportions.
Texas are very resilient and helpful. Many people unaffected by things have stepped up to offer help in anyway they can. Probably over 100 flat bottom boat owners, some from as far away as Dallas (approx 240 miles) have been doing high water rescues within populated areas assisting local government and the Texas Nation Guard. Just one example.
I'm proud of my fellow Texans.
I would ask everyone to keep the unfortunate people affected by this disaster in your thoughts and prayers.
