For me Whistler is a train wreck waiting to happen, WGT certainly named it accordingly in the Awards > Courses section.

Oly's greens are brutal and Merion is right behind it, or ahead of it depending on the day.

Oakmont is certainly tough but it's one of the courses I started out with playing a lot, so I kind of like it. Same with Congy.

Toss the rest in a hat and mix well. I have good days and bad with all of them.

St. Andy may be at the bottom of the list and you can post some good scores but the heavy winds and hilly greens messes with your head. Ditto with RSG.

My thought are play and post scores on all of them equally. Become an all around golfer and don't rely on one or two courses to lower your average. They are all fun to play and the experience will pay dividends in the future.

Whistler is one of the easiest courses. A joke more aptly describes it. Too many short par 4s and 5s there

Merion by a wide margin. Whenever I'm feeling good about my game, that course brings me right back to reality. Never understood why Kiawah is considered so easy. The greens are nearly impossible to read at 45 degree angles, and they put those little humps and mounds right next to the hole locations. I miss more short birdie putts at Kiawah than I do at Merion....and par putts too, for that matter. St Andies is no pussycat from the tips when the winds are up.

    1. Merion

    2. Oakmont

    3. Olympic Club

    4. Royal St Georges

    5. Kiawah(least favorite course)

    6. Congressional(favorite course)

    7. Bethpage

    8. St. Andrews

Same here.  That course has more Phew! Happy to have made par there holes than any other.

I think you hit it in your St. Andrews comment, the tips.  The difference between the TM and legend tees is pretty extreme on Kiawah, maybe most of those who find it so easy aren't yet legends?

This is true. Except for 1 and 3, all the par 4s are close to 500 yards. But I really, really struggle on Kia's greens. It seems like when I get a slight break or near straight putt, I mishit the putt or it jumps off in the wrong direction..but when I ding them I have usually misread the little bumps and mounds. The whole course is just a little off to me and I find it hard to stay patient knowing the competition is somehow tearing the course a new one.

With you Neil on the Kiawah greens.  Unless you play it enough to really know it the dots are about as useful as a chocolate teapot too often IMO.

I also agree your course list apart from me throwing Cabo in at around 5 also.  Always enjoy a trip there even if I do only play it when it comes up free. Strangely perhaps my favourite course is also Conga, Always seems a fun contest at that one for me.

Looking back I can see where Mainzman may be coming from though. It's a flat course and perhaps back at Master, and below, our expectation's where less, and so a few more two putts never annoyed so much.

Yeah Jim, I didn't include Cabo or Whistler since I've played them maybe 2-3 times apiece. When I have played them, I did pretty well so they'd both be near the bottom of the list. Glad I'm not the only one who's jinxed by Kiawah! IIRC 63 is my best full 18 and after a dozen or so tries I finally shot 28-29 on the back in one of the weekly unlimiteds.  Nut meets blind squirrel kinda thing!

Kia greens can be bad... I read the dots in reverse view... both putting and chip view if needed.

nah, Kiawah is still very easy from the tips as well. Fairways are very wide... means its bombs away from the tee.

Also, the hole locations arenot eactly close ot the water. Not sure why neither of the hole locations on 12, 13, or 17 are not tucked gainst the water
