  Hello all

  In order from 1 upwards what would you say was the toughest to easy course...1-2-3-4-5 ect..

  2. Merion

  3. Oakmont

  4. Royal St. Georges

  5. Congressional

  6. Bethpage

  7. Kiawah

  8. St Andrews

  I don't play Cabo or Whistler.

  It depends on the winds. With heavy winds 

  1 RSG

  2 St. Andrews 

  3 Olympic

  4 Merion 

   5 Oakmont

  and then all the rest in no particular order.

  thanks for replying guys ..... as a newbie it helps to know...... what would you suggest playing on with limited skills and clubs and balls ...

  You get better faster if you play the hardest courses the most.

  If you want to advance quickly St.Andrews but if you want to learn how to play well then Oakmont ,Olympic, RSG and Congressional.

  For me this is y top 5 toughest.

  1, Merion - toughest greens, top course management required

  2. Olympic - hard greens and some hard fairways to hit

  3. Oakmont- tough greens

  4. RSG - winds can cause havoc

  5. Congressional - tight fairways

  Basically I recommend you play all courses, some shots you use on one course do not necessarily work on others so take notes of what works and where, especially the short game. All too often you find a player who is brilliant on one course and looks and plays like a hack on every other course.

  This game is not easy and you are always learning so most importantly, enjoy the journey.

  Most people find St Andrews front nine the easiest with Kiawah coming in second. However to lower averages sometimes It easier to do belter on the shorter nines (par 35 or less)

  You're so right Alan if u go to the ones with a par of 35...even if you shoot 1 over your avg will still drop....I personally say the back 9 of Kiawah is the easiest...with St. Andrews front 9 second...and if you can just get by the nam Bethpage Black....the front 9 is a low score if u play the fairways correct

  My list, based on the legend tees would be as follows..........

  1 Oakmont - just a tough place in every way

  2 Olympic - easy to get in trouble off the tee

  3 Merion - lots of birdies if you can manage the course well

  4 Congressional - long

  5 Kiawah - long with some tough pins

  I think the STA course is the easiest with BPB and then RSG rounding out the group.  At lower levels STA is very easy as is Kiawah for those who want to advance quickly and be thrown to the lions I suggest staying on those two.  If you want to progress properly and get an all around evaluation of your talents play them all equally in stroke play.
