Hi all - I was just reading the European Golf Association handicap (Continental Europe) http://www.ega-golf.ch/030000/documents/EGA_Hcp_Int.pdf - and I was liking what I saw with their balance of tournament and ranked rounds (they call them handicap qualifying competitions and extra day scores). Crucially, they have a standard 'quitting' lifting of the handicap that we were talking about, and a limit of the number of ranked rounds in a year.

    WGTalex:

As in real life, you may never play as well as a real pro, but that doesn’t mean you can’t buy the same equipment they’re using.

You could put Tiger Woods' driver in my hands but I will never be able to hit it more than 250 yards.

Wouldn't it be a good time to replace tiers with a handicap system?

+ 10  -  that is the ONLY fair way

    Richard4168:

Whatever, this is a good idea people and you don't need to be picking it a part like most people do when WGT tries to implement good ideas for the game.

Boy I tell ya, that saying is true. You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time. Give the new idea a chance to be implemented people before picking it apart. What's wrong with you people?

    Richard,

respectfully, sir - you are the one making an issue out of nothing here. These forums are the exact place for these discussions and for players to air their opinions.

WGTAlex has already said these changes were, in part, based on player feedback. If it isn't going to be rolled out for 60-90 days, don't you think they would STILL like to hear opinions of players, in order to fine tune this before releasing it? just because someones opinion doesn't match yours doesn't make it wrong, it just makes it different. That is what opinions are all about Richard, and embracing the opinions of others instead of dismissing them for no reason can be extremely rewarding.......

]"We also plan to introduce new Experience Levels that will be based on actions you perform on WGT such as

    completing rounds,

again, for the same reason reputation tracking won't work - how do you determien what is an acceptable drop, and what is not......

    hitting shots

so the more shots you hit, the higher your experience? Isn't this kinda punishing players that shoot lower scores??

    and interacting with other players."

Are we gonna have a lock feature on our walls so we can prevent the spam? Hi there, just a quick mssg to say hey so I can get better clubs.

I'm not closing the door on this new Experience level thingy, but it is inching closer to the threshold the more I consider this,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seemed to me that players currently in a broad skill level (Pro, Master) will stay at that level (subject to being subdivided), and everyone would start from 0 only on the mysterious new scale of Experience.

May I suggest something that could help encourage people to get better or move up in tier levels.  As in real life as you get better so does your accuracy, distances, feel.  I would suggest that if there is going to be a different set of tee boxes why don't we add distance, accuracy and feel to a player based on his ranking.  If you achieve the highest ranking you will get 1 more attribute of distance, 1 more attribute of feel, etc.  This would not only provide a realistic since of improvement but also improve the overall gameplay in my opinion.

In addition being one of the oldest members left on this site.  I have always felt that if you would add this element to this game it would add a since of achievement.  If I knew that I would be able to improve the player I had and not have to buy my way up with equipment I would have to continued to try to get better.  Not to mention the amount spent on balls, and equipment only to have adjust my timing.

Alex and Jamie let me know what you think or if this has been thought of already.  This could really be a great addition to this game and something that will keep me around past the US opens and Open tournaments.

    Yours Truly,

    TBIRD

That is how I interpreted it as well.

Not sure if it would really matter due to the fact that if you really want the experience points you can always resume the round later and get the experience if, for whatever reason (acceptable or not) you get bumped out of a round.

    VanHalenLover:

    hitting shots

so the more shots you hit, the higher your experience? Isn't this kinda punishing players that shoot lower scores??

I didn't interpret it as a quantity of shots, but more like the quality of shots.  I was imagining something like # of eagles, double eagles, aces, holed shots from off the green... that sort of thing.

A little foggy on how exactly this will work, but I hope it's not how you described.  Perhaps a +1 or thumbs up type of system for forum posts, completion rate in multi-player rounds, how many different players you play with in multiplayer within a month... and so on.

Remember all of these criteria are subject to our own interpretation, and what WGT has in their plans is unknown to us.  I guess we'll have to wait and figure out what and how they did it.

    TDHarvey:

Wow i cant believe everyone is missing the reason behind this implementation.....MONEY. This opens up a big cash stream for WGT. They will be selling better, more expensive equipment to everyone.....not just the master tier players. Hacks on down the line could buy better equipment....

If anything it could be the other way around. The current business model encourages players to buy a set of clubs specific to their level (Amateur, Pro...) and then buy a new set again when they reach the next level. WGT would seem to lose money if low-ranked players could immediately shell out for the Master clubs, once and for all.
