    djtolles:
Isn't the real reason why Quitters or disconnects are diliked so much is that all to often it freezes & locks up the game in progress; screwing up the remaining players who are playing the round... This programming problem needs to be fixed..PERIOD..then, I bet the complaints would disappear

Darn, if you believe that, I bet I could sell you the bridge to nowhere

I agree with another poster who said enough about quitting, WGT knows, I know, you know and none of us will do anything about it. It is part of this game, and most quitting comes from hitting a bad shot, and not being able to recover without going to triple bogey, or some because people want to see a low avg by their name.

    VERY FEW FROM FREEZING

find friends on here that will finish rounds with you.

I currently have 280+ on my friends list ( not sure if all of them dont quit) and at this very moment a total of 6 are online and available,  can only imagine if I have half as many or 25%, how many would be available then?  needless to say you cannot have a spontanious game here without involving stangers,  and  I dont like to schedule my fun.

Good point Wizbang.  I totallly understand... though there's nothing more spontaneous than quitting.  Other than getting married, perhaps...

    Removing the 'quit/end round' option

That is the perfect solution.  Remove the quit/end round option from ranked games.  If someone loses power or internet connection, they can rejoin in a certain amount of time.  You can leave the option in for non-ranked and other single player games.

By removing the 'quit round' option, time would not matter - whenever the same user logs back in, they are automatically taken back to the same (like what happens now), only game with no option to quit, and must then complete it as a solo player.

The best part of this solution is that those who don't drop, keep playing with anyone else left in the match, and only the quitters have to finish alone. And yes, it will force those who have power outages, game glitches, etc to finish in solo mode, but I'm betting this is a small percentage as compared to those who quit in order to manipulate their averages.

Once there is no option to drop a match, you will see players disconnecting much less, as they know they have no choice but to finish the round before they can start another.

I don't agree with forcing people to complete rounds, unless you want to allow them to switch to the free balls mid-round.  Even then, there's an easier and better solution...

All you'd have to do is calculate people's "average" on a per-hole basis, should they exit out of a ranked round, and there would be no incentive to leave.

The calculation would go as such:

    score_on_holes_completed * par for the entire round  / par_for_holes_completed

If you'd completed five holes, and par for them was 21, and you shot 22, and par for that 9 was 36, then the equation would produce the following:

    23 * 36 / 21 =  39.43 for 9 = 78.85 for 18

Now, of course, someone might say that a player could quit out of the game right after taking a bad shot, having not completed the hole, which would make the equation register only the decent round that he was having prior to the current hole, which he was doing terrible on and did not complete.

In order to adjust for that, it would be simple, score the hole reasonably based on their progress (and add it into the above equation):

If they have already taken (par -1) or more shots (e.g. taken three or more shots on a par 4), then add 1 if they're on the green and within 6 ft of the hole, add 2 if they're on or off the green and within 50 ft of the hole, and add 3 if they are more than 50 ft away from the hole.

If they are not at that point yet, however...

If they've taken their GIR shot and failed to make the green, count the hole as a bogey. If they've taken their GIR shot and made the green, ignore the hole.

Did they quit out after 2nd, non-approach shot on a par 5?  Again, if it's in the fairway and within 150 yards, ignore the hole.  If it is over 150 yards or in anything other than the fairway, mark it as a bogey.

Did they quit out on the drive?  Did it hit the fairway?  Ignore the hole.  If they're in anything other than the fairway, count the hole as a bogey.

Of course, don't hold your breath waiting for WGT to implement anything like this.  I just don't see it coming.

in multi - player  strokeplay games, who ever sets up the game should have the option to enable a stay and play contract. a small tick box. when ticked means you have to play the game out even if disconneceted, next time you open the game browser the only game you can play is the one you quit or disconneted from. it won't stop players quitting but it will stop the sandbggers trying to save their average by not finishing or bailing out scott free after a double bogey or worse.
