I find the chip is best avoided. I only use it if I'm less than 5 yards from the pin and then only on flat surfaces within a yard of the green.

^^^^^^ Agree if not less then 5 feet and on a flat surface, then a chip is a wasted stroke in my opinion

I used to think the same way and avoided the chip but more recently I've been working on it and it's very effective after a heck of a lot of practice. Perhaps takes the most practice and result notation of any shot we can hit here.

Lol i have had so many bad results with the chip shot ( user error of course :)) that my spine cringes when the caddie picks the chip as default. That being said the chip view camera is invaluable and priceless :)

It's all about knowing how to use the shot. Very valuable when used correctly.

Yes. Within 5 yards on flat surfaces and less than a yard fron the green.

    QFT,

Knowing how, and when to use Chip shot mode.

Around the green I use Pitch way more than I use Chip.

Quite obviously you don't know how to fully avail yourself of the benefits of chipping from many places NOT sitting on the edge of a green. Oh well, different strokes.  :-)
