    geraldlarousse:
I would say scrambling stats would show how good a players short game is

    Sand Save % 82.73%

    Scrambling % 81.31%

I've got balls the size of a cow dude.

    LMAO!

    Sand Save......85.61%

    Scrambling......87.18%

So how big are my balls?  I hope not to big. They could possibly get in the way.

Well very small one's here.  I fairness I did hammer them hard chasing the L93 R1 Par 3ing round after boring round, starter ball, left hand backwards type stuff.  Little felle's done well to get back to this I reckon:)

    Sand Save % 55.22%
    Scrambling % 63.43%

First off, I totally disagree with courteneyfish and tramilleo, chip shots over 5 yards are useless unless it is a flat surface. My current hole out % is 9.67, of which at least 70% are chip shots: from the fringe, rough, uphill, downhill, and with severe brakes. I have no problem with my Ping Tour W 64 (42), up to 10 yards. The only thing I can agree on, with the above mentioned players, is that it should be no more than a yard off the green.

This thread has been educational and informative, a veritable plethora of useful info; however, something continues to mystify me, and I'm sure, many other readers:  Exactly where are you guys finding balls on a cow?

(...the notion might even be considered udderly ridiculous)

    ;-)

Nobody said that they were useless. Nobody told anyone not to use the shot. The OP wanted advice and I told him the way I play. In my opinion anything outside of 5 yards has a better alternative. Obviously other people play differently.

    I'd listen to YJ.

But he didn't give any advice.

Now, without encouraging anyone to ream out my poor stats, I would take the view that the only vital aspect of distance from the green whilst chipping is to ensure that the chip shot will actually land on the green. The carry to the green can certainly be over 1 yard - perhaps 3 or more. Which is not to say that the chip will always be the wisest choice to play just because the chip will carry to the green on that particular shot.

Sure he did.  His advice was to ignore your advice.
