I had a long discussion about this yesterday with the grease monkey crew ... everyone felt (1) Donald was definitely in the wrong and (2) Donald's young gold-digger girlfriend bated him into the telephone conversation which resulted in what was said.

Here's the link to the telephone conversation.  At the beginning, Don says to his GF, "you don't need to broadcast everything" ... in which she replies,"I'm not broadcasting anything." (maybe she should have used a "double-negative").  Then the comments ensue.  Totally bated into the conversation.

The phrase stated over and over during our discussion ... "HeII has no fury as a woman scorned".  In other news ... Donald's estranged wife is suing V. Stiviano for embezzling millions from their joint account without her knowledge.  Seems like she would be better off suing her estranged husband.

Gold-digger?  Did Donald get what he deserved?  Should the NBA force Donald to sell the Clippers?

First, is it really Donald Sterling. If it isn't, then this should just go away and the GF should be locked up for defamation.

If it is, then there are a number of ways to look at this.

First of all, Sterling has the right to his opinions. He shouldn't lose everything he has, or the team, or whatever, just because of what he thinks. Remember, what he thinks could be very different than how he does business.

If Sterling has never shown any kind of discrimination in his dealings with employees and business associations, then it doesn't matter what he thinks. He puts his opinions aside and does business fairly.

Do any of the minority employees that work for him feel they've been discriminated against? Does Doc Rivers feel like he got railroaded or cheated? Chris Paul? Blake Griffin? Deandre Jordan? If not, then what does it matter what Sterling thinks?

On the other hand, as an employee, do you want to work for a guy who thinks this way?  You could be so personally disgusted that you would walk away from any amount of money Sterling is paying you. But again, if you've never felt that his opinions have had any effect on your business dealings with him, maybe you can put his opinions aside and treat the relationship as purely professional and do what you are being paid to do. From that perspective, it's the employee's choice.

It's not like Sterling is an employee who can be easily fired for making such comments. However, how, in a free society, do you strip someone of the business that they own purely on the basis of their opinions?

If the NBA is going to do anything, it better be because they have evidence that Sterling's opinions have influenced his dealings with minorities. If they can't prove that, then leave him alone. It will be up to his employees whether they want to stick around or not. That will be what decides Sterling's fate.

Assuming the recorded voice is proved to be Sterling, this is the best thing that could have happened to Adam Silver. He hands down a lifetime suspension, everyone is happy, he looks strong and decisive. And is henceforth known as "Sterling Silver".

There is plenty of evidence that Don Sterling is a racist.  Comments made to Elgin Baylor ... comments made to Magic Johnson when he came to Los Angeles ... comments made to Kareem Adbul Jabar and comments made to athletes leaving the Clippers organization can easily prove that fact.  The taped conversation should not be admissible evidence however ... his GF at the beginning said "I'm not broadcasting anything", so clearly Donald was, as you stated, making a private opinion that she made public after they broke up.

Whether it's his voice or not, (and I, for one feel it is), I don't think the NBA should use that tape as I stated before.  There is enough evidence to show he's a racist without it. I think this time many of the "once" Clippers will step up and swear about their interactions with Donald Sterling.

While I live in the LA area, I refuse to go to any Clipper games; mainly because of their owner.  He's a tool, IMO.

It's really sad that Doc Rivers and the players have to deal with this right now.  It has to be difficult for them.  The playoffs are difficult enough to get through without this type of distraction.  I'm sorry for the players and those affected in the organization that will now have to deal with this.

Regarding Donald Tokowitz aka Donald Stirling & his wife, the former Rochelle Stein, I am estatic. He is a known hater of "schwartzes" as well as hispanics. He is an arrogant, insipid, insidious human, with an ego the size of the andromeda. Those are just a few of his finer points. Better still, he will be out and he is 80...tic-toc, tic-toc ;)

I think it's his voice, too. If it is, the NBA should not launch another investigation. This is a time for quick, decisive action.

And this is why. The NBA needs to remove this distraction ASAP.

Regardless of whether or not Donald Sterling is forced to sell the Clippers, he's lost quite a few sponsors over this scandal.  Companies like Car Max, Virgin America, State Farm and Kia Motors have yanked their advertising.  I'm certain others will follow suit.

If he goes, I just may check out a few Clipper games next year.  They do have a really good team ... just one nasty owner!

The problem is there aren't laws against racism and ignorance. His GF baiting him like that is probably the only way this was ever going to come to the forefront with regards to this guy's personal character.

Oddly enough, I could see in his mind where he thinks he something of a benefactor to what he perceives as lesser individuals. More money than you know what to do with probably has a lot to do with it as well as the atrophying brain.

I had a marriage trashed by the vagaries of an 80 year old mind (ex-FIL) and to this day I don't understand why an old mind shrinks the memory banks to that time when their life was simpler for them and they lose any semblance of logical thinking. I hope the hell somebody shoots me if I ever get that way, even though I would probably not understand I got like that.

Totally agree, YJ ... I'm also afraid Donald will pull an "Al Davis" ... hang on as long as he can even though he knows he will probably destroy the team in the process.

ifi may say it my own way of understanding to the whole story ,,,,, there are many ad many like Donald ,,should i name any ,,no,,it is really he way they are ,,no one can change that in them ,it is turning to a political ground for all to play the (( Good People).i think you can point out many of them ,, very discriminative ,,strongly racist ,and still enjoying the freedom that this country is offering to all .cut the chase ,,straight to the point ,,the guy will issue a big carpological statement ,,agree to pay a fine,,wouldnt matter how much ,,of course to him.

any of the players they were ,are ,and will be willing to  work  for the clippers as long as they are getting paid well ,,very well , that is the way business is ,,how many deals were dealt in life between tow different kind of humans ,i am trying to be careful . no names to mention ,but there are so many ,and they were ,are ,,and will be many more ,,regardless the personal issues .no matte how they are .sorry this is the fact of life ,,in America ,there are still plenty of racisms ,and there will be as long as we are all living on this ground ,,never forget ,,it is a human thing , even though it is prohibited by Gods rules .
