    Calm down everybody.

I also too just missed out on the R1, despite playing a lot of golf. I'm not bitter,  just jealous lol.

However, there are more decent drivers around than ever before. I couldn't cope with the R11 fast meter, so I got the SLDR. Sometimes I outdrive players with the R1 or I'am quite close. Yes, into a headwind I stand no chance. There is a Big Bertha available at my level, but I rented it and it's worse than the SLDR into a headwind, because it's 10.5 degree loft. There is also the Callaway and the Nike I could get.

Anyway, you drive for show, putt for dough. You need an all round game.

However, if the R1 becomes available again at my level, then I'll be the first to buy it.

    Hey Jason,

I wouldn't worry. The SLDR is the 2nd best driver here at wgt. The Top Bertha is equal to it in every way, but a little longer. That extra distance is slight, and fun, but doesn't equate into lower scores...at least not for me. But the fun aspect is, well, fun.

I challenge you all to do a little research.    Check the top 10 on the money list right now.

I bet you wont see the SLDR   being used by any of them.

here is an example you ding all 4 of the top drivers.  the Covert, The R1 Black,  SLDR. and choose any other it doesn't matter.

While dinging them all you will notice the R1 Black goes further.    I will say this if you miss the ding using the SLDR at times can go further than others.   But its a glitch that lies within that club, and  you have to miss the ding to get it.    And still will come up short to a dinged R1 Black.       again I challenge you to check the top players.  The ones who win The Monthly Tourneys.   And none of them use a SLDR.

I will say that if you experiment with different spin.  Sometimes you can find a glitch within certain drivers that makes the ball at times go further.    Example   With the old R11 people would ask me how I can hit so far.  I tell them about how a small bit of backspin is a glitch I found to work for more distance off the tee  with the old R11.      :)     Donnie

Apart from saying a little surprised there is not a L100 Nike in their somewhere (not sure why) I think you are coming at this from the angle.  Of course top players will use the best equipment and that's a gimme.

Now if a talented TL was placing consistently 8th with the SLDR and felt the R1 might make that more consistent / even up a place or two at the most I could see the point.  Any one that has got the R1 realises the R1 is not some magic weapon - like I said influence on stats minor to say the least.

Now I also said I think WGt have a little imbalance going on with the R1 at so high up the levels being L98, but that's not suggesting it's a game changer either.

Much as I disliked the R11 it was way plenty to get to TL, and the SLDR pi$$es all over that ease of use at least.  Iron, wedge and of course especially putting play will have x10 the influence of the R1 compared to the SLDR, and that's being conservative.

    Agreed but still...

If you have a 4i into the green instead of a 3i then.......

Well just one minute there Jim,    I woulda thought the same thing of course the higher level players will use the highest level equipment.   But then when I checked I noticed TLs at level 102 using a level 93 Black R1.  Explain why please?   I think we already know the reason though.   That level 93 lower level driver,   Hits further than the other 4 drivers rated a higher level than it is.    hmmmm Please explain?

The question is why are there lots of players over level 100 using a low level 93 Black R1?  I mean its 7 levels lower than there rank?    And lets keep in mind once you get up into the level 90s.  It virtually takes forever to level up.   You have to stay very active and play alot of games to go from level 93 to level 100  Its not easy.

I wrote a big thing about it months ago...  Stating how WGT must open the R1 Black to everyone.   Because im sick of my opponent using a 4 iron  when I have to use my 3 iron..on approach shots.      LMAO    NO FAIR.       Donnie

    No real clue.

I do know back in August when the black R1 was on special people were annoyed it might not be as long as the L98 one........All died down but was a concern for a minute or three...Playing along side the white R1 I have never seen any difference I also know that.

Like I say the R11 was plenty for even me to get to TL.

I use the Black R1 only because I chased it back in August blowing up my stats to do so.  It's a very nice to have, just won't turn a 62 average to TL on it's ownesome that's all.  If anything the last driver that actually made a real difference was the R11, but there was no SLDR ETC ETC then...I hated it's flighty waiting to bite my ar$e nature but kicking and screaming the piece of crap easily got me to TL, and helped win a monthly single play much as I despised it.

I think...and this is just a side comment....its all about preference....what driver a player feels comfortable with.  The same for any club.  Some live and die by the R1. They think its the best thing since sliced bread.  Others, not so much.  But isn't that what's great about the game.  We can all agree to disagree, without being judgmental or just plain rude and insulting.  What I like may not come close to what another player likes.
