    DaddysKat:
(I wonder where the dots came from ... does the R&A rate their courses with dots?  How many dots are on a Royal St. George scorecard?)

Course rating is for amateurs - Pros like Us play from scratch!

IIRC, the dot "system" is a WGT invention of this year. I bring it into conjunction of the dots disappearing on clubs and balls.  AFAIS it is only an informal indication but has no effect on any stats like average.

While USGA course rating (also applied in Continental Europe) has CR (course rating, e.g. 71.5) and slope (e.g. 128), British courses traditionally have only one number, a SSS rating (Standard Scratch Score). It corresponds to CR, in whole numbers. Simplified, a British course has CR = SSS and a slope of 113 (standard).

Some British courses have bought a USGA rating as an extra. STA has it, RSG not.

So there's no difference between a Hack and a Tour Legend in this game?  I totally and completely disagree; and the 18 hole single-round tourneys seem to agree with me, based on the scoring averages from these tourneys.

As I recall when I joined in May of 2013, everything had dots.

Sadly, since the courses on WGT are mainly US courses and have course ratings, it seems like this would be the best solution.  Even the SSS rating would be better than 4 1/2 dots ... wouldn't you agree?

We've had this discussion before Alosso.  Don't you think we can avoid this walk down memory lane?

I'd just like to know if WGT has any plans to change this goofy "dot rating" they have on their courses and give us something we can work with.  It would be nice to have some form of a handicap for the less advanced player.  It makes it more fun for the Tour Pro, Master and Tour Master in a CC tournament ... even if it is just a "net score" win.

O yeah - you're into handicapping here. I have to admit that I don't follow these discussions.

As I said, the dots are just for show, and me thinks that any complication in the calculations should be avoided. How could justice be in a 1-to-5 dots rating? Furtheron, it would not care for the tier differences. In consequence, different tiers can hardly compete with or without a rating - I can live with that.

Good luck for you with your question - it might be too intimate for the company ;)

As Alosso says, for the purposes of this game we are all deemed Pros - even if you are a hack lol.

But for the purposes of fairness and especially for CC events, a better handicap system would be fair.

Currently you can churn out hundreds of rounds on the easiest 9 holes to tier up - this creates paperweight legends/TL's etc but as there is no course rating there is no differentiation in the eyes of WGT.

As there is talk of a new super tier, perhaps it is high time how "averages" in general are calculated, including course ratings. We know they are not true averages once you hit saturation and this is part of the master plan of tiering players up which equals upgrades lol

Course ratings work - my club has a SCR of 74 from black tees, SLP 143 - but if I play an easier course just playing to my handicap does not put me in a better place. But as Alosso says, I am a professional on here.

But as Alosso says, I am a professional on here.

And what do professionals do for the game of golf?  Whether they know it or not, they are selling equipment and promoting the game of golf.

Now where does the money come from to pay these professionals?  The majority of that money comes from the amateurs, and most of those amateurs have a handicap.

The newbs here ... they are buying the equipment these days.  When was the last time you spent 4000 credtis on a new set of clubs?  How many golf balls are you using these days?  As many as you did when you started?

If it weren't for the newbies coming up the ranks here, this game wouldn't exist.  It seems like we should support them.  If they join a CC, they should have a chance to compete with all the members of the CC, no matter what their tier.

Right now, it's left to the owners to figure out a way to make the games fair.  WGT hasn't offered much, other than limiting the tiers that can play in a tourney.  Me, I'd like to see it where an Amateur has just as much a chance to win a tourney as a Tour Legend.  It makes it more challenging for everyone.

    @WGTadmin2

since we probably wont get anymore courses from the uk could wgt add some us womens open courses, if you have a good relationship with the usga im sure it would be possible.

2015 Lancaster Country Club, Lancaster, Pennsylvania
2016 CordeValle Golf Club, San Martin, California
2017 Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster, New Jersey
2018 Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club, Birmingham, Alabama

if any of those courses are long from the back tees im sure they would fit in nicely on wgt

Of course they are, they effectively market the manufacturers equipment, We at WGT do not lol.

As for spending, I spent nothing for a year - I was happy plodding away using starters equipment....then I hit Masters.

The largest revenue derived is from ball sales, they wear out quickly and are expensive in comparison to clubs. The 4000cr clubs will last as long as you want, that is only 6 and 1/2 sleeves of top quality balls. An avid player will rip through those.

So I actually spend more now than even when I first upgraded as I used Tour SD balls exclusively until I made legend.

But I agree this game needs the incoming new players as these are players who will spend whereas many "older" players use credits that are in the bank and will never spend again (I am not one of them).

But I 100% agree that a fairer handicap system should be available, especially to CC Owners without having to spend hours on trying to refine a system. But hey this will not generate income for WGT and are too blind to see that players leave as it is not fair.

The problem is this game has too many flaws in the system - namely the tiers but the tiers do not have equipment restrictions for a start. So any system can be manipulated currently, by sandbaggers but the current system in particular as it revolves around the greed business model.

Sadly enough and partially as a result of our requests, equipment is far too good and makes the game too easy for those who have taken the time and effort to learn the game. Anything that can level that out  must be a good thing.

    I love the "sadly's", Alanti.

Just like the thread that was started over a year ago that WGT promised to review and make changes, sadly few of the suggestions presented ever got addressed.  Instead we got bird noises and applause and different product wrappers over an old product.

So, yeah, I'm throwing out some "pie in the sky" request in a futile attempt to make this game fair for everyone, but sadly, I don't think anything will come of it ...if anything, we'll get the number "4 1/2" instead of the 4 1/2 dots.  that's easy ... means nothing, but they did make the change!  lol.

I've read all these new promises WGT says they are going to unveil for the CC's.  Sadly, I'll believe it when I see it.  I wonder how quiet WGT is going to get when all these promises fail to materialize.

This is behind all my writing.

Sadly, I lost all hope when it comes to amendments. The game is as-is. Period.
    Any betterment comes unpredictably.

Concerning the "difficulty" rating: I doubt that it has any calculated basis, it may rather be a rough guesstimate. Keep in mind that the difficulties vary with the tee boxes.

I got that, Alosso.  Each tee box requires a course rating.  On this site, if you go to practice mode, as you change tee boxes, those pretty little dots they are using for the rating changes as you change tee boxes.  I just wish those dots had a number you could work with.

Wait ... we have wonderful new sounds and applause when we make a birdie ... that's new ... and the "get 225 credits when you become a tour legend" on the game client ... that's new!  And the pretty photos of golf couses that get covered up by the working page ... new ... and the ticker (most everyone has blocked) ... that's new too!  Oh ... let's not forget about that really cool notebook!  Wasn't that like the best product ever?  OMG, I don't know what I would do without it!

It's not that they don't do anything ... they just don't do much of what we request.

They usually give us something we never asked for, then they provide us with a way to turn off that feature they gave us a few months earlier!

    At least they stay busy!
