OK maybe the changes to the conditions from the rough still need tweaking, and it sure would be nice if bunker play was more realistic, but at least this is a start. We've all faced practically unplayable lies from 60-70% brush, etc. so at least the site seems to be addressing that. WGT sure should have done more to publicize this, instead they splashed news about the ridiculous new green speeds on the front page.
I've seen a lot of whining about how this will make players have to adjust, they've spent hours perfecting different shots from the rough, now they have to tear up their notes, blah, blah, blah. Quit whining already. When I see people posting stuff like "my 13 yard shot from 40-50% rough won't stop on a dime anymore, now it rolls for a few feet", etc., here's a news flash...that sort of shot should NOT "stop on a dime"...YOU'RE IN THE 2ND CUT OF ROUGH!!!
Then I read where some poor soul shot a 56 instead of a 55 because he didn't realize that now his shots from the rough might actually roll a bit. Well, if WGT wants to provide a more realistic game of golf, these routine (for many players) scores in the low to mid-50's SHOULD NOT HAPPEN! Has everyone forgotten that these courses are supposed to be U.S. Open conditions?
