Oakmont # 9 isn't hard at all an easy par if you can hit your ball into the front right bunker. And that bunker shot is the easiest in the game.

I am a relative newby to the forums but I have to say the greens at Oakmont are the most challenging for me. As a result I enjoy them most when they play at the very fast level. The 9th hole at Oakmont is extremely tough to get it close. I seem to always have a wicked sidehill or downhill putt.

I'll have to try playing it from out of the front bunker as suggested above. Sounds like a reasonable way to play from below the hole.

The fairway just by the bunker is easier as you can get spin on the ball from there. if you are in line with the hole from the left it's an easy two-putt. the rolling approach on the left is easiest for me.

yupps..some of the greens at Oakmont are dodgey to say the least....apart from that it's got to be the closest experience anyone will get to putting on Dolly Parton's breasts for sure.

Some greens are just rediculous; 8 out of 10 greens are good but the other 2 are impossible, no matter how skilled you are, 9 times out of 10 they're going to ruin your score. It's gotten to the point i've stopped playing those courses although I wouldn't recommend that; I'd recommend play the hole over and over in practice and getting good at it! :)

Sweet birdie on #9 at Oakmont from 40 feet.

In the same round, a 70-footer on 15... this game is easy!

Putting is designed to make you think.  I find a great course for putting is S.A..   You will have a variety of challenges, uphill, downhill, sidehill, hard breaks, slight breaks etc..  Also, the more courses you play the better feel you will get for reading the breaks.

Memorizing putts in my opinion is not the way to play.  Understanding, and reading the green is more challenging, but also more rewarding.  Knowing the green layout is essential for your approach shots.  Golf, is always about improvement.
