    In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    In Flanders Fields:

LCol John McCrae was a Canadian Medical Officer posted to the front lines during WW1...he wrote this enduring Rondeau in honor of a close friend, who was killed the day prior during the battle of Ypres. As the story goes, McCrea was unhappy with the "just finished" poem and discarded it. A fellow soldier picked it off the ground and it was eventually published in England.

    Thank-you for posting it, Alan.

A personal thanks to you Rich and your Dad for serving and protecting our country. And to all Veterans, I will never forget, thank you.

Here's a couple of videos by ESPN in tribute to our veterans.  The first one is short and called To Those Who Dared To Take This Oath.  The second is called Coming Home.

It hits a nerve with me to see so few responses on this. I guess way too many just take it for granted. I can't even comment any further because I will go back to the old me. I buried the old Renni a long time ago. It just breaks my heart to realize that only a few even care any more.
