If you played bracket then you would know most of the top players play bracket. Many have commented on this post, and most of those agree that if a player has already played 2 rounds to make it to the third, or three rounds to make the final, then that player should be paid regardless of whether or not the player WDs.

Brackets were set up this way and are not changing. The easiest way to fix this is if you are in the final and can play the round to post a score.  We are not taking credits away or being devious in trying to trick players into losing credits. You can call it rubish or whatever you want, but when you enter the bracket you know you need to post scores to move on or win. Just making it to the final round does not mean you deserve anything. Again if you want to win and not lose credits play the round.  I am sorry but in my mind this is a non discussion and not something that needs to be answered over and over again.

What needs to be answered is how WGT can keep 80% of the pot if the two finalists can't/don't finish their rounds?

This site crashes all the time - there's no reason that WGT should benefit from the site's failure.

    Very bad business practice.

I guess expecting an answer to this would be too much to ask?

Wow...i forgot about this thread....and sorry but this answer above does not resolve anything. you can't collect entry fees for a tournament and keep some or all of them other than WGT 's current rake (if you will). After all it is gambling right. No matter how you look at this its wrong....you should be ashamed of yourselves for this....its awful and cheating in my book.

because both finalists have won 3 matches to get there. They have earned the right not play the final round and take second place should they wish. If neither manage to play, they have still earned the right to split 1st and 2nd prize by way of their previous victories.

That would be like saying if you played in a PGA Tour event for 71 out of 72 holes and are leading and WD due to injury, emergency, or whatever reason they want, you should get paid because you played the previous rounds and were leading so you deserve the winnings. That is not a legitimate argument.  If you want to get paid out finish the round and win the credits.  If you don't want to play in the final round don't enter the tournament.  This is not something wrong with the brackets and will not change.

    Disingenuous diatribe.

You use real life PGA to justify not paying finalists who both WD. However, WGT choose to include unlimited first round in any VT event.

So, what's it going to be? Continue to use real life examples when it suits your purpose and disregard real life examples when it doesn't?

If a player for some reason can't play or has a poor round and decides to save his/her pills, then that player has every right to WD and claim second place because the player has won three rounds to make the final.

If both players WD then both should be allocated second place. This way WGT still comes out on top.

Don't give me your hypocritical garbage and try to palm it off as justification for such a ridiculous rule.

Is it even true?  Part of the op was

But there's still 1 huge unresolved bracket issue that has been going on from day 1. If none of the 2 finalists posts a score (whether they WD or are just unable to play in due time), neither gets awarded ANY credits

I don't know for sure but suspect if the golfer in the scenario above did not get ANY winnings from the tournament there would be a court case.

The 2017 U.S Open paid: Winner: $2.16m,  Runner-up: $1.3m, down to 66th: $22,729 and the other 76 professionals that competed but missed the cut each took home $10,000.

So I can't see how a golfer retiring in the final round would be paid less than those who played two, I'm guessing he would have been placed 66th and Paid $22,729.  In addition the pool of prize money would have been paid out in full to the golfers, not kept by the USPGA or the sponsors.

Shoe missed the point completely on this on...comparing a 72 player field to a 2 player field, is apples to oranges...

A better comparison would be a two player playoff, no?

So if one player WD's due to injury/etc...they still get paid, just as if they came in 2nd place in the tourney field of 72.

In a 200 credit 18 hole final I was playing poorly because my meter didn't take its medication. My opponent was a genuine Champion and so I knew I had to hand in a competitive scorecard.

I chose to WD, save my pills, and pocket the 864 credits for second place - which as it turns out was a good decision because my opponent as predicted handed in a good scorecard.

However, I didn't get my 864 credits, nor did I receive 288 credits for third placing.

Why? Well, I had no opponent in the third round semi-final because both players in the round of eight WD, so I decided not to play in order to save pills and time and knowing I've already made the final.

This is wrong, and needs to be righted. I'm owed 864 credits, but I won't see it.
