    TheFigster:

I am confused.. there are sooo many companies that already have all the courses mapped.. A lot of the GPS companies offering pocket caddies.. hec an insurance company can even tell what line you need for a put on the green.. . not to mention back in the 90's I usa to play the PGA PC golf.. and we could hook up online and play all these pga courses.. mapped out beautifully.. They even had updates for new courses on a regular basis. You could even design your own course back then, and have your online buds play with you.

20 years later has not the technology improved? This site has been up and running a long time in beta mode still. I think the real conflict is with the Tiger Woods PGA sanctioned game.. so it may just be political.. but I seriously doubt it's a technical problem.

These courses are created from real HD photographs.  Literally 100,000's of them.   It takes time and money to compile these images.

    Cheers,

    b0gey

And the work that goes into them is something we take back out of the game in the form of the realism and precision.

What is the reason we can not do stroke play on Pebble Beach or Wolf Creek, but we can play closest-to-the-hole stuff?

It is either a question of investment of time and money to map the entire courses, or a question of licensing and other commitments.

Last year, when the US Open was at Pebble Beach, we were given the full course at Oakmont instead, probably because there was some licensing conflict with respect to Pebble Beach (?). Presumably the full Pebble Beach will be put up in time for the next US Open there (2019, I believe).

WGT has also explained that some courses are physically/technically very difficult to map, which could explain why the full Wolf Creek is not available.

Also, because of WGT's arrangements with the USGA, the first priority is apparently to bring us Congressional, this spring, in the runup to this summer's US Open.

The reasons could vary from course to course.

The ladies had a major at oakmont when they released this course, it might have been in relation to that. Im pretty sure they some sort of agreement with USGA to do their courses etc.

if your interested here is a YouTube Video of Chad Nelson ( Developer, President) where he touches on what goes into making a course plus allot more:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JmwxDFZknw

As for new courses, according to Wikipedia :

"In line with its USGA tie-in, WGT has published a preview of the new courses that will be launched on the site in conjunction with the upcoming locations for the U.S. Open: Congressional (2011), Olympic (2012), Merion (2013), Pinehurst No.2 (2014), Chambers Bay (2015), Erin Hills (2017) and Pebble Beach (full course) (2019)"

I don't think this means no other additions will be made that are separate from the USGA but at least it gives you an idea.

    Hope that helps a little

The Wikipedia information is updated as information becomes available on WGT, but it is not as authoritative as WGT itself.

Has it been confirmed that we will get Congressional as a full course yet? or is it going to be another 2010 course, or Pebble US Open, closest to the pin shenanigans thing again?

Oakmont has been a beautiful addition to the small roster of courses but, its been a while.
