    Picture the scene…

You contact the doctors to try to get an appointment and you’re met with the wall called “reception”. Forgive me if this doesn’t work for you in countries other than the UK, but I think the Scottish comedian Billy Connelly perhaps put it best when he said “I was made to feel about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit”.

It can sometimes feel a bit like that in some country clubs too. (Baby it's cold inside)

You know the score …you’re sent an invitation …you accept that invitation, and as soon as they “have” you, you’re all too often left to your own devices. If that club at least has some ambitions on improving their place on the WGT leader board, they’ll likely be in touch asking for ccxp contributions (which is fair enough), but it can quite quickly begin to feel a rather one sided agreement.

Or perhaps they just literally leave you alone, and you're left wondering what has exactly changed from wandering alone in the wilderness. But perhaps that’s the way you want it, you merely want a base to call home in WGT land and explore … and that’s great, if it’s for you. Life is nothing, if not about choices.

Please don’t get me wrong, there are some great clubs out there, but all too often they aren’t seeking new members; or you have to fill out application forms and give the "right" answers, or know the right people.

The One and homely country club is different; let me tell you exactly how and why.

Firstly, we’re a friendly bunch …with a focus!! And secondly we prefer a more equitable arrangement between club and member. It's not about what you can do for us, it's about what we can do for each other ...and what we can achieve together.

You won't get the frosty reception alluded to above from us, we want you to join in; to take part and watch your tournaments come alive!!

Just a sentence or two in our “Introduce yourself here” discussion will open a whole new world of friends, opportunity and fun. It’s the key to turning a virtual container into  your club house, and winning more than just free balls at The One and homely country club. And if you’re a little shy, you’re sure of a warm reception from our members who have posted in our “Friends of The One and homely” discussion; those members who are prepared to go that little bit further in welcoming you into our fold.

    They are all great advocates of our club; in fact, the only frosty reception you’ll get from us is the following one;

We provide our members with great tourniesgreat entertainment and great competition. And we provide this for a really great reason. We realise that our members deserve the best; the best atmosphere, the best tips and the best fun. And they deserve all of that because they all buy into our goal; to be the youngest club to reach the number 1 spot on the leader board of WGT.

This is not a wish; it is inevitable!! We’ve made number 7 in record time before under the guise of Every Day People; this time we’re going all the way.

If you’d like to be a part of that, and want to play your part in it, we want you!!

Make no mistake, The One and homely IS the best club on WGT, and you can help to make it even better. If you play every day, and like the idea of becoming a little bit of WGT history, join us.

Whether you’re a tour pro looking for some tips, a master looking for some mates or a legend looking for a laugh; people who want to learn and improve, and those who have time to share and assist, we have it all.  And we’ll accommodate all who support our ethos.

Our chat room is a friendly, lively place where it is so easy to make new friends, and to get a game; and is soon going to be transformed into a multi-media facility with so much more potential.

    Our ethos

We’re called The One and homely for two reasons; the first is that reaching and retaining the number 1 spot is our goal; the second because we want our members to feel relaxed and chilled as they have fun taking part in the activities and using the facilities we will be providing as we progress towards our goal.

And all we ask of our members, is to play their little part in helping our club reach its goal by committing to play at least 9 holes on their first game of each WGT day, using at least one of the two FREE passes kindly provided by WGT every day.

Of course we’d love it if you choose to play 18 holes each day like many of the other clubs on here demand, but we realise that you are busy people, and that this is not always possible. In essence, we ask for a coffee break sized commitment, not a lunch hour.

You don’t need to be passionate about our club reaching the top spot, though it does help to have a joint goal when you’re building a team, and a little camaraderie. If you play regularly, please visit our club’s home page, and request an invitation, it’s going to be fun!!

    Onwards and upwards,

    Roddy

    Nice post Roddy...!

That is exactly what we are striving to do and achieve at our CC, Legends of the World.

If you are a member of a CC, Any CC, A little respect goes a long, Long way and hat can be earned quite easily by just using your free pass to play a game, Enjoy, have fun and possibly make some really good friends in the mean while ..

    Very nice post sir

This is perhaps the only long statement I read right through to the end.

Succinct, precise and very well put together.

I've been freelance for a while and thought , for a change, I'd join a CC advertising for members.

There were, allegedly 48 members, many first-timers, a few tour masters but no legends, so I thought, this could be fun. I could try to help those needing it and impart much of what I'd learned over the past six years and on joining this CC left a message in the forum introducing myself and stating just that and asking member to friend me.

    ....Nothing.....

I didn't expect balloons, a military band or flag-waving, but a short  message from the Club owner would have been nice, lol.

It felt like I'd just boarded the Marie Celeste.

Steaming hot food on the tables in the way of just two long since close tournies but nobody there.

No contact whatsover from any of the alleged members.

I was reminded of that guy in Bruce Almighty wandering into what he thought was a busy office block only to discover it was completely empty, lol.

I gave it two days periodically calling out...Is there anyone there??!! and only hearing my voice bouncing off the walls.

I decided to leave the building, lol.

I would very much like to join your CC Roddy. Give it a try and help those players needing it and play GOLF.lol

Glad to have you on board Lewis, I've just accepted your requests. It's always great to have people on board who can give a few pointers to members, who go that little bit further than necessary; this is what The One and homely is all about.

As with most things in life, the more you put in the more you get out.

    WillieSinkit:

I joined The One and Homely Country Club just a few days ago and am now so pleased that I did.

I've been made to feel extremely welcome by the other members and it really is refreshing to be part of a CC where the owner actually cares about his club and the membership.

No cliques, no ridiculous rules to abide by, plenty of varied tourneys plus assorted rewards for those who take part and join in.

Albeit a fairly small and young CC at the moment with 30 members, I'm totally confident that I have joined a club that will go a long way, very quickly indeed.

Many thanks for accepting my application Roddy :)

You're very welcome Willie, and thanks for taking the time to pop on here and let others know what we're about; much appreciated :-)

Cheers, sounds like a plan once we've got our numbers up somewhat.

While i wish you all the best with your country club and what you're trying to do Roddy, poaching/attempted poaching of other clubs members is a big no no here on wgt and is frowned upon by many players.

I would suggest you change your recruitment approach instead of sending out random invites to players already in clubs as you have done to some of my members.
