I upgraded to the best equipment WGT had back in June and already can't keep up after just 2 months.  At this rate, will it be long before we have putters that go 500 yards and a Super Duper Masters tier that is shooting in the 30's or 40's?

Ok, before ripping me apart, I understand the need to keep pace as in regular golf and there is always new equipment that helps you play your best.  I also know that the players that put in the maximum stick time will be the most competitive...more power to them .  But 18 under...come on.

    Any Thoughts?

There's more going on with that than meets the eye, and that's all I'm going to say about it at this point.

That's only one abnormal tournament, see here.

I think there's a large majority of us out there who will try to not allow that to happen.  Coming off of TW console games where 40's were the norm I found myself quite sick of playing golf that way.  I can't speak for everyone, but many of us came to rest on WGT because of the realistic scoring.  I think that if the scores start slipping down too low, there will be a large contingent of us sending in hate mail in protest.

This month's International Tourney is played from the red tees (ladies tees) and should be considered the exception to the norm.  Aside from AvatarLee's one nutso unlimited-play round on Bethpage, they've done a pretty good job keeping the scores in check.  I'll be the first to say the game is probably a tad on the "easy" side right now, but any long term member knows that the difficulty has fluctuated back and forth with almost startling regularity.

I think the Red Tee Open was WGT's answer for anyone who was wanting Master Tier clubs, but wasn't in the Master Tier to qualify to buy them.  WGT has provided a "back door" of sorts into the Master Tier with this tournament.  Hard to say if we'll see tournaments in this format in the future or not.  Hopefully not.

WGT has their Diamond Long Drive Distance award set at 400 yards.  At some point, that will be attainable, but I think it'll require a nutted drive, a 24 mph tailwind and all the kick and roll of a good bounce off the cart path.  If I had to guess, I think we'll see average drive numbers start to top out around the 295-325 range, which is a tad long probably, but they haven't opened up the Championship tees on these courses either.  Edgewood is 7400+ from the tips.  If that course ever reaches stroke play status, you're gonna need all you can get and more to score well there. :)

As in real golf, it is very hard to "buy" a low round here at WGT. The players posting the beautiful scores have been here a while and were posting beautiful scores before the big T-ball drivers, irons, putters and ball choices came into availability. It is a simple matter, just as it is in real golf. Hit the fairway, hit the green, hit a great putt. None of this is anything other than that, regardless of equiptment.

I've played Edgedwood several times. It plays quite short given the alltitude. One will love the course if they hit it left to right off the tee.  I thought it played fairly easy even though the US senior open was played there. When it gets windy all bets are off.

The funny thing about this site is that there is significant benefit from upgrading irons and drivers. But no visible benefit from upgrading a putter. but I suppose its one of the things about the site... someday I'll learn to shoot 50s...

    @igiveup,

    Hi,

Sorry disagree with the comment on the putter upgrade.

There is definately a benefit to upgrading the putter. But like most clubs it does take time and practice to get use to them, the putter is no different.

I upgraded to the Spyder (spelling???) putter. I had previously read quite a few reviews on it - a lot negative, some very positive. Anyway my first few rounds were very so, so ?? I was almost going to go back to the starter (which I had grown to love over a 16 month period) but a forum post advised me to stick at it, which I did. I'm now starting to get the hang of it, and am starting to drain a few nice putts. My longest with the new putter 49 Ft (the old one 68Ft) Never the less, I think I am missing less putts in the 5 - 10 ft mark, and certainly less overall. My putting stats show me 1 & 2 putting nearly 96% of the time. So my stats are continuing to get better with this new putter.

Dont forget its the most important club in the bag. Drive for show - Putt for dough. So - dont neglect the putter upgrade. You'll regret it.

    Just my 2 bobs worth.

    Cheers Doug

In short I agree with SweetiePie and also the post on her WGT blog entitled "How I Play"

Well done... plus she looks like one of my daughters.
